The season 5 finale ended with Morgan Jones who was left for dead by Virginia while the remaining members of Morgan's group have been separated by Virginia and her Pioneers and are dispersed across her various settlements. The anthology format that the showrunners have teased and told us about makes that kind of story work as we'll have the chance to follow these characters and the stories they tell and the various of locations that will be introduced, could only be a good thing but a negative part of it all is that we won't follow the whole group if I understand correctly so it will be wait an episode to get to see the other characters. I believe it will be a good season, I hope. It also seems like they have placed the Fear back into the show but I get why they wanted it to be more of hope than fear before but this lpooks promising.
This season premiere is directed by Michael E. Satrazemis, a person who have been working on The Walking Dead since the start so he knows his stuff and doesn't disappoint in the direction and camera work. The cinematography is great and there's so many shots that are visually stunning. The editing with all those beautiful shots were done so well, it's a huge step up.
I love westerns and there are a lot of themes and a feeling of western in this season, a lot more than the previous season. We get introduced to a new character, a bounty hunter who works for Virginia and at first I didn't think it would work but it did and it was entertaining and an interesting character and concept. The overall writing is so much better, no stupid actions, it have improved a lot. Even the newly introduced characters are fantastic and written in an realistic way which most of the previous characters that got introduced wasn't.
My final thoughts on this episode, it was superb. Truly suspenseful, emotional driven drama and tons of zombie kills. An episode you will remember for years to come that has Morgan Jones the beloved character at the front. The acting is some of Lennie James' best and all of the supporting cast did also a great job. The production design is perfect and its overall dark atmosphere is the reason why many loved the show from the start.
