Kelly's wife is divorcing him for £5000. In October 2020 this would be approximately £21,650.
The third season was scheduled in a Monday 9pm timeslot.
The idea of Kelly being divorced in the series was inspired by his divorce in real life. In an interview with Linton Mitchell published in the Reading Evening Post (18th November 1982), it was transcribed by Mitchell as a "painful experience" for the star, but "not only did he manage to see the humorous side of it, he made everybody else laugh as well."
Kelly and his wife divorcing wasn't completely unprecedented in the series. Several episodes show Kelly and Suzanne (Gabrielle Drake) arguing, but as early as Episode 1.2 Kelly was delivering a monologue about how "divorce" should go on a to-do list. In Episode 2.1 he actually uses the term to Suzanne, jokingly threatening to get the "Mr. Fix-It Home Divorce Kit".
In Kelly goes on holiday! (2020), Kelly reveals that it was Gabrielle Drake's decision not to remain in the programme, opting out of the third series. "She went on to do bigger and better things, and remained friends, and she's a delightful actress and... we really missed her on series three."
