A pleasant and heartfelt film about a nice grandmother who takes great care of her grandchildren.
ma-cortes2 December 2023
Loli -Susi Sánchez- is a modern and at the same time somewhat chaotic grandmother who lives with her grandchildren Edgar and Robert in a modest house in Cornellá de Llobregat. In this way she tries to help the whole family get ahead and thus prevent her grandchildren from failing in the life. Loli throughout urges them to practice sports, and in reality Loli is, despite her age, an excellent runner and in the past she won prizes in sports competitions. But Loli is suffering from some problems and some turmoil in her life. That's why the bank is after her, as are some of her family members, because she cannot pay the mortgage. Her grandchildren will have to sharpen her ingenuity to get money that will allow them to pay their debts. However, a worse problem is emerging, which can disrupt your life. So Alzheimer is about to turn your life upside down.

'Moving, funny, inspiring and full of feeling', is how Agustí Villaronga describes this story for whom this film became his last work and his first comedy. The motion picture was acceptably directed by Agusti Villaronga providing an enjoyable flick based on the tale of a good old woman and her grandchildren. Starring the award-winning Valencian actress Susi Sánchez, the film tells the story of Lola, a vital grandmother who years ago took care of her two grandchildren, with whom she maintains a beautiful relationship full of love and trust. This is a mildly funny movie with entertaining and sentimental events, laughter, craziness and a lot of fun. This is an agreeable recital by Susi Sánchez in which she demonstrates her acting skills, her gestures and her particular way of acting, including her usual tics, as well as her peculiar expressions. Susi Sánchez is well accompanied by two great secondaries, veteran experts on interpretation, and already very old, Fernando Esteso and Celso Bugallo. Of course, the axis of the film is the grandmother Loli who rigorously takes care of her two grandchildren and will do anything to protect them. Basically, with her peculiar life, she aims to help her grandchildren get ahead and prevent them from getting into trouble both at school and outside of it. She tries to teach them a proper education and a good way of life, surrounding them the poor, lower-class neighborhood in which they live. A nice comedy, with dramatic overtones, about a friendly grandmother who tries to raise her family, having to take care of her grandchildren, with hardly any financial resources.

It features colorful and brilliant cinematography by expert photographer Josep Maria Civit. Josep is considered one of the best Spanish cameramen who has photographed numerous hits, such as: ¨Ausentes¨, ¨La Cara Oculta¨, ¨El Rey de La Habana¨, ¨Eskalofrio¨, ¨La Gloria Incierta¨, ¨The Vampire from Barcelona¨. And adding some songs, such as: 'I sell some black eyes' performed by Coral Noves Veus; 'Babadum' performed by Mor Millán, Maria Anglada Sellarès, Joel Gálvez and 'Cinco lobitos' performed by Susi Sánchez (who also played successfuly a film with the same title) and Mor Millán. The film was well directed by Agustí Villaronga, in his last film, in fact 'Loli Tormenta' was dedicated to himself. Villaronga was a craftsman and expert on films full of dark and strange atmospheres, such as: ¨El Mar¨, ¨99.9¨, ¨Aro Tolbukhin¨, ¨Tras El Cristal¨, ¨Niño De La Luna¨ which won Goyas for screenplay, costume design and his big hit ¨Black Bread¨. Rating: 6/10. Well worth watching.
