Sia turns creepy
TheLittleSongbird19 August 2022
'Scooby Doo and Guess Who' sounded very interesting and really liked the idea of the gang solving crimes with various guest stars (a mix of real life celebrities in the film, music and sporting industries and popular characters). So a more modern version of 'The New Scooby Doo Movies', loved that show as a kid and quite a lot of episodes and guest stars hold up) but some episodes and guest stars don't quite do it now. This show turned out to be mostly very well done and at its best great.

When first getting into 'Scooby Doo and Guess Who' when it first aired, my first impressions of "Now You Sia, Now You Don't" were very positive. And refreshing after watching disappointing episodes that were spoilt by poor guest stars that had unappealing personalities and dominated too much. On rewatch of the whole show earlier this year, my feelings on "Now You Sia, Now You Don't" are still positive, with Sia, the setting, the villain and the atmosphere more than make up for the lack of surprises.

Due to the rather too low suspect count. "Now You Sia, Now You Don't" in my view needed more suspects and more screen time for them to help make the identity of the perpetrator less obvious. Personally did have a strong inkling that it was them straightaway and the shortage of suspects and their underuse made the keep one guessing aspect of the mystery fall short a little.

"Now You Sia, Now You Don't" however has so many good things. The animation has a lot of atmosphere, rich colour and even richer attention to detail. The music is dynamic and groovy, also loved the modern spin on the iconic classic theme tune for 'Scooby Doo Where are You', although it is too short. A vast majority of the voice acting is very good, with Matthew Lillard nailing it as Shaggy.

Moreover, Sia is a great guest star and the best since Wonder Woman in "Scooby of a Thousand Faces". She is very cute and quirky here, just like in real life, and her interaction with the gang is full of lively fun. Did appreciate that she didn't dominate too much or have any unappealing character traits exaggerated, and appreciated too that she was not underused. Absolutely loved the setting, Sia's home and all the various gadgets is just so enviously cool.

Every bit as great is the villain, one of the creepiest up to this point. One of my most vivid memories of first watch was the jump out of the skin scene in the bedroom, and it is still one of the show's scariest moments. Not to mention one of the franchise's scariest scenes in a long time. The atmosphere is quirky and also very creepy in all the right places. Shaggy and Scooby bring their usual comic relief and it's genuinely amusing and never less. They are still timeless characters and their bond never fails to entertain and endear.

In conclusion, very good. 8/10.

Now You Sia, Now You Don't!

The quality of the guest star declines a lot after the Dark Knight.

It is singer Sia's turn to grasp the broomhead with a shaggy haired and daffy story.

A demented Sia lookalike is stealing jewels with the intention of framing the real Sia for the crimes.

It is up to the Scooby gang o find the culprit with all the spooky going ons.

At least Scooby Doo and Shaggy make a good team and provide the main fun.
