I am not sure if the title of this episode is meant to be a middle finger towards the horrible movie that came out earlier this year, but I chose to believe so and hence this episode deserve praise from that alone.
Secondly this is a fun episode. They play around with 80s, they develop characters (which this cliche show seldom does), and even that feminist mumbo about the patriarchy worked in this context. You see Hollywood? You can be SJW and feminist but still have fun with it and develop characters at the same time. it is called GOOD WRITING! Kinda weird coming from a show that normally has one of the worst writing around since the writers and directors blatantly copy paste almost everything, but this episode felt fresh and fun. In fact this entire season has been better than the first (so far) and I hope this episode is an indication of good things to come.
There is one bad thing about this episode. I am sorry, but when one 23yo and one 22yo is pretending to have sex for the first time and one runs around looking for a condom while their "friends", one 28yo and one 26yo claim they are not sure whether or not the couple in question should have sex... I mean, come on! This is the stuff that very young teens have already grown out of, and it felt so weird, cringy, and off. Have the writers of this show ever had sex? Did they all start at 30 once married? This trying to have sex bit is probably the most unrealistic part of this entire show - and since this is a show about vampires, magic and monsters, that says it all.
Still, good entertaining episode and I give it a couple of extra points for the title and for having fun. 9/10 due to the extra points.
I do however want to send a warning or advice to the show runners: you cannot keep having 25 year old or even a lot older pretending to be in high school, they are even old enough to graduate from university by now. Kill some of the characters in a bloody teary action packed final episode, and next season move on. Do something new, fresh.
