Eat more fish. Good for this.

A slower episode, but it fills in some details focusing on the two women with their differing approaches and varying success.

Samantha's (Rachel Keller) past closes in and she faces three threats, setting back her plans. Ultimately she demonstrates her naïveté and difficulty managing men in an alien culture, especially when unable to rely on her customary flirtatious style.

The star of the show is Eimi (Rinko Kikuchi) who reveals her compassion with a bereaved man, her tenacity in following a story and her control over men in a misogynist culture. A remarkable performance.

Gritty, sexy, fast paced and intriguing.

Who'd have ever thought something named after a Backstreet Boys song could be so good.

Jake receives an invite that he quite literally cannot refuse, and Samantha's past begins to catch up with her, Sato is sent in to encourage her to see the 'error' or her ways.

I think this is my favourite episode so far, it feels as though the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. Plenty of tension once again, and it's another fascinating delve into the cultural differences in Japan.

I don't know why, but I think Sato is becoming the most interesting character, I'm keen to learn more about who he is and what he wants, has he fallen in love with Samantha, is he wanting to jump ship, he really is a curious guy.

The Yazuka, and those stunning tattoos, wow, that's all I can say, I assume they're not real, but wow that is some incredible art.

8/10.

Samantha is sooo annoying

I like it all ready, it's star to grow. The characters and all the drama, and the complexity between the journalists and the police and the mafia guys and the culture of course. It's really cool. But man, this Samantha character is so annoying.

My most favorite episode thus far.

I really liked this episode. It touched on a lot of different areas of the show and showcased a little of everyone and everything.

I feel like the cinematography got better with this episode, from the shot downward of the street to the four faces cramped together reviewing paperwork. There were laughs, there was drama. There was dancing, music, and intimacy, and a good amount of yelling.

I really like when one character has anothers bald head on a table.

I really liked this episode and it made me want to watch the following episode immediately. Best episode so far.

Who is Hikari ?
fuller_jc13 May 2022
The episode lists 'hikari ' as director . Is this any relation to Hikaru Utada a/k/a hiki , famous j-pop r&b singer ?

I believe the hikaru Utada song 'time goes by' is played in a taxi scene . Also , I believe an enka song is played in this episode too . Hikaru Utada 's mother keiko Fuji was a famous enka singer ? Is there any connection here ?

Decent, Elgort is a Bore.

Finally, more interesting story beats are starting to take place, more characters are interacting with one another, and the stakes are continuing to grow. What really hurts this show for me is Ansel. He seems so out of place and his performance is borderline cringe inducing. Ansel Elgort's performance feels like he is pretending to be someone else, and if his performance was good nobody would notice his "acting". He really hurts the show in my opinion. Everything else is decent enough to pass the time on a rainy day but nothing is to the point yet where I would tell a friend or family member that they need to watch Tokyo Vice immediately.

Backstreet
douglasmcbroom14 April 2022
My least favorite episode thus far. It was very disjointed and attempted to tackle too many plot threads. Ansel Elgort was very annoying in this one and we didn't have enough of Ken Watanabe.

The focus was on the supporting players: Samantha (Rachel Keller), Eimi (Rinko Kikuchi) and Sato (Shô Kasamatsu).

Samantha simply cannot be that stupid to have survived in her world as long as she has. With Eimi, we see the patriarchal power structure, in Japan, that subordinates and objectifies women. Sato is very interesting and his character looks like a pivotal one. He's not your average Yakuza.
