Off-duty cops talk

Warning: Spoilers
This special documentary was included as an extra on the DVD box-set of the second season of the BBC's 'Life On Mars'. It is good to see the cast as themselves, ( Dean Andrews looks nothing like Ray Carling ) and nice to hear they had a lot of fun making the show. I did cringe however when Clare Parker - one of the the executive producers - spouted off about the 70's being a golden age of racism, sexism and homophobia. Like those problems don't exist today. If Clare spends a few hours trawling through social media, she'll see that people have not become more tolerant with the passing of time. The very reverse. Historian Mary Beard was attacked by sexist trolls a few years ago because of her appearance, and look at the opprobrium aimed at the first female 'Dr. Who - Jodie Whitaker. Some men don't like to see women getting on in the world. Kamala Harris and Greta Thunberg have also been subjected to vile online abuse of the sort even DCI Gene Hunt would be embarrassed by. So stop slandering the past please. If we think we are living in a perfect world now, we are only deluding ourselves.
