Quite a lot of the animations in this year's "Animation Show" feature surreal chain effects, and in this case the surreal stands out and the chain effect doesn't. Reacting to a noise complaint call, a police officer arrives at a small apartment complex where he's met with one weird tenant after the other... all of which simply slam the door on him and also seem to be hiding things within their apartments. Those things are actually quite related, leading from one circumstance to another until the whole lot of them go up in flames. Literally!
The animation, though, is crazy. A combination of what looks like CGI background and hand-drawn characters (possibly colored in the computer) results in some weird, skewed perspectives that are almost as trippy in the sober-perspective as the drugged (one character accidentally takes some ecstacy, with somewhat hilarious results--partly an homage to Dumbo, as well, strangely enough).
It's certainly a neat animation, and one that looked like it was really fun to conceive. It seemed to owe quite a bit to Spike and Mike as well.
