Exclusive: Amplify Pictures, the indie studio behind HBO’s Emmy winner 100 Foot Wave and the upcoming Legends for Nat Geo/Disney+, has greenlighted development on LA Native, a new half-hour comedy series written and created by Siena East (Clone High).
The show centers on Genoa Now, an unruly Native twentysomething in Los Angeles trying to make friends and connect with her Native American culture. Chadd Gindin, East’s collaborator on Fox’s animated series Grimsburg, will serve as showrunner and exec produce the project alongside Amplify Pictures.
“We’re in a really incredible time for Native television thanks to years of hard work by Indigenous artists who have fought for our stories to be told,” said East in a statement to Deadline. “It’s so exciting to get to develop a show close and dear to my heart. A Native story about an unlikely hero who makes unlikely choices...

Exclusive: The Good Doctor is getting a fitting conclusion with one of its most popular characters, Dr. Claire Brown, returning. Original cast member Antonia Thomas, who starred as Claire in the first four seasons of the ABC medical drama, will be back for two episodes in the current seventh season, including the series finale. Another Good Doctor alum, Brandon Larracuente, also will be back reprising his Season 6 character of Dr. Daniel Perez in one episode. Additionally, Ruby Kelley (Push) has joined in a recurring role and Guillermo Diaz (Scandal) will appear in a guest spot.
Thomas’ Dr. Claire Brown, who was Dr. Shaun Murphy’s (Freddie Highmore) closest friend and confidant, departed The Good Doctor at the conclusion of Season 4 to take a job at a medical clinic in Guatemala. Thomas returned at the end of Season 5 as a guest star for two episodes where she surprised Shaun and Lea...

Amazon Studios announced that “With Love,” the romantic comedy series from creator Gloria Calderón Kellett, has been renewed for a second season on Amazon Prime Video.
The series, which debuted its six-episode first season in December 2021, follows the Diaz siblings, Lily (Emeraude Toubia) and Jorge Jr. (Mark Indelicato), who are on a mission to find love and purpose. The two cross paths with seemingly unrelated residents of Portland, Ore. during some of the most heightened days of the year — the holidays, including Christmas Eve/Nochebuena, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, the Fourth of July and Día de los Muertos.
Season 2 will consist of six episodes set during different life-changing milestones or celebrations.
Season 1 saw Lily fall in and out of love with Nick (Desmond Chiam) and Santiago (Rome Flynn) while Jorge weathers different challenges with his boyfriend Henry (Vincent Rodriguez III). At the same time, cracks emerge in...

Billy Eichner’s upcoming studio romantic comedy “Bros” at Universal has set a principal cast that will be entirely LGBTQ+, and the studio has set Luke Macfarlane (“Brothers and Sisters”) as the lead alongside Eichner.
Nicholas Stoller is directing “Bros,” which also features a screenplay by Eichner. And the studio has already set the film for release on August 12, 2022.
Universal says that the LGBTQ+ cast of “Bros” will all play the principal heterosexual roles, which they say was a decision by the filmmakers and Universal to expand diversity and LGBTQ+ representation on screen.
The story however is that of two gay men hopefully, maybe, stumbling their way toward love, that is if they’re not too busy.
Also joining the cast are Ts Madison, Miss Lawrence, Symone, Guillermo Diaz and Guy Branum.

The hugely acclaimed reboot of “One Day at a Time” already experienced a major network shift when it moved from Netflix to Pop TV after the third season, mainly due to the loud, bring-it-back vocalization of its ardent fans. But nobody could have predicted the fate of its fourth and final season, originally slated to be 13 episodes, very suddenly shut down by Covid-19. The trouble was they only had six episodes under their belt, and who was to know when TV production could ever resume in early 2020 when the pandemic’s grasp was largely unknown? So the creators of the Norman Lear-blessed series (he also serves as an executive producer) turned to a very unlikely medium to have give audiences one last look: animation.
As co-showrunner and also the co-writer of the episode (with co-creator Mike Royce), quite pointedly entitled “The Politics Episode,” Gloria Calderón-Kellett was all-in from the get-go.

HBO Max is rounding out cast for its comedy pilot Ok Boomer. Will Sasso and Tim Chiou are set as series regulars, along with Zoe Manarel and Carter Chee in the multi-camera comedy pilot from creator Todd Linden, the late Jamie Tarses’ Fanfare and Sony Pictures TV. They join previously announced series regulars Patti Lupone, Erinn Hayes and Devere Rogers.
Written by Linden and to be directed by Victor Gonzalez, Ok Boomer centers on Barbara (LuPone), a self-centered boomer who shows up at her estranged daughter Sarah’s (Hayes) house hoping to live off the family’s money, but forms an unexpected bond with her progressive granddaughter who’s quick to challenge her on their differing views — of which there are plenty.

ABC’s promising-if-unformed new comedy Home Economics wants to be a timely show about the importance of family in a precarious post-quarantine world, when it’s actually a comedy slightly out of sync with its time.
Home Economics is launching at least a year late, since it could have been hailed as the best comedy in a midseason 2020 pack full of shows about how family is the best cure for economic insecurity. Through three episodes sent to critics, it’s leaps and bounds better than Outmatched, Indebted, Broke and United We Fall, a quartet of half-season series that even TV critics may not remember. All four ...

Exclusive: Scandal and United We Fall alum Guillermo Diaz is returning to ABC with a series regular role on National Parks, the network’s drama pilot co-written and executive produced by Yellowstone star Kevin Costner. The project hails from Costner’s Territory Pictures Entertainment, 20th Television and A+E Studios.
Diaz joins previously announced series regulars Billy Campbell, Angel Parker, Gerardo Celasco, Ashleigh Sharpe Chestnut, Blu Hunt and Tiffany Dupont.
Co-written by Costner, Aaron Helbing and Jon Baird and to be directed by Anthony Hemingway, National Parks follows a small group of elite national parks service agents as they solve crimes while protecting the parks — which, while being known for their sweeping, beautiful landscapes, also attract a vast array of criminal activity.
Diaz will play Vic, a Special Agent and Isb’s unflappable helicopter pilot and botanist who uses these unique skills to investigate and solve crime inside the national parks.
