The police are stymied in their investigation because the main suspect did not have fingerprints on file in the state of Florida from where she is allegedly a fugitive. However, Florida requires that paralegals BE fingerprinted, meaning that they would have had her prints on file.
At the crime scene in the beginning of the episode, an officer picks up the mirror of the vehicle involved in the hit and run and says "This came off a Dodge, '06 Model". The vehicle used in the hit and run was a Dodge Avenger, which was first produced as a 2008 model.
Even if the suspect took a shower, gunpowder residue would still be on her hands. The detectives would have sought a warrant for a gunpowder residue test which would have discovered that she had indeed recently fired a weapon. Additionally, even if she had showered or bathed, that still would have done nothing to remove gunpowder residue from her clothing and/or shoes.
