This show is not a fantastic show. It's stupid, it's silly. It's nonsensical. But that's what I enjoy about it. It makes fun of itself. It makes fun of the after shows like talking dead. If the show gets cancelled I'm not going to lose any sleep but it's just a fun show. If you take it for that you'll enjoy it.

What did I just watch??

Not briliant from beginning to end, but amusing and reasonably clever

The little cliffhangers of The Flare have a real-show feel to them, as if they are written by people who make such things for a living. Jon Cassar ( worked on 24, The Orville, and directed episodes of some 2000's and 1990's shows ) perhaps has a large influence on the clips.
Fred's a natural. He might be able to pull off a real show if given the chance. A real-real show....not a real show that is fake, like this show. Even though this show exists, so it's real. But sorta not.
I can't be sure but I figure much of the dialogue in the interviews with the celebrities comes from the celebrities themselves, rather than being fully scripted by the show's writers. I'd be bummed if all of that was written for them, too.
Where things kinda go off the rails a bit is the random character who is part of the show in the first half, then suddenly pops up in the end. The timeline doesn't always fit to make this possible, so.....ehh, should we take that problem seriously?

Mockumentary
cyberbub12 August 2019
It is a mockumentary for after shows. Take it as that and you will enjoy. I love it because it's different. Fred Savage being the host makes it great if you grew up watching him you understand. For younger viewers they might not appreciate it as much. There needs to be more shows like this that flip the script and have an original idea. I think most of the public just wants another new hit show spewing out the same ideas with different people. Great idea and execution for a show!!!
Caught this by accident...

Watching tv at midnight and caught this. I had recently read the synopsis, was slightly intrigued, so I decided to invest a few minutes of my time. WORTH IT!
I LOVE satire (Christopher Guest, etc) and this did not disappoint. Fred Savage nails it as the host of the after-show of a fictional show. His enthusiasm and interview skills (or lack thereof) are so cheeky! The celebrity guests are great, too.He really hits the mark for the audience of The Flare and the ACTUAL show. I hope there are other viewers who appreciate the wit and parody of this show.
It doesn't get much worse than this

Fred Savage plays an eccentric host on a talk
show with real guests centered around the newest Fox show that doesn't exist. So what can go wrong?
This show fails on every level to deliver a satiracle show worth watching. Somewhere in the lore of great satrical talk shows hosts, Space Ghost is rolling in nauseation. The only irony here is the fact Fred Savage plays himself based on a show that is fictional. I am taking bets now for which week will be the final episode. This way, the irony will be at full circle and he again will be himself centered around a show that doesn't exist.

Make The Flare a real tv show!
trckstar3030 August 2019
I think it's time to make The Flare an actually tv show. The clips at the beginning of each episode are great. I feel The Flare is a mix of The Walking Dead and Lost. Would love to see where it goes.
As for the talk show portion goes. I felt it got better as the season progress.
Should be 0 stars

This was just stupid. Couldn't get though 15 minutes of the show. The after shows are dumb In my opinion and this is so much worse. Terrible parody. It funny, Savage looked like he was forcing it. Over acted crap. I doubt it wi make it 3 shows before being cancelled.
Why.

What just happened (to Fred's career)?
hddu10-819-3745824 July 2019
I grew up watching "Wonder Years", and like when Fred would make a cameo/get work whenever he did (even in "Rules of Attraction", which really showed his potential range). But much like the last horrible short-lived game-show where Ricky Gervaise had to hideously contort his face into something that resembled tolerance for being around children, Fred's presence is made painfully boring due to a lack of good writing and a poor concept overall. Much like Brian Cranston, when Fred has good writers, he's actually quite good on camera. But that's the key...since on his own, he neither has the charisma, humor or experience to carry a show on his own personality or "wit". There really is very little positive to say about this show, since the concept is weird, the editing is horrendous (the lulls and spaces between "jokes" and audience reactions adds up to one big face-palm) and the writing is just plain awful. Fred really looks like he's trying to over-act to get SOME sort of laughs from the audience, but it doesn't come off as anything other than trying too hard. I know this all might sound harsh, but give the guy a good show and format...he'll be worth the investment.
Garbage

I just watched this show and couldn't figure out what was going on the host is so annoying. I hate his mannerisms. Only reason why I didn't give it one star is because Kevin Smith was on there. Summer network tv sucks.
So hot

For those of you who don't understand what's going on, it's a takeoff on the Talking Dead, which is discussing The Walking Dead. In this case, "The Flare" does not exist but this is the AFTER show discussing it. I think Fred is doing a great job with this. I also enjoy when he ventures outside the studio. If you understand the concept, you would appreciate it much more!
Decent

Not much for first impressions, but turned out much better than expected
MyFriendsCallMeDirt25 May 2021
This one was a slow starter, but by the 3rd episode they hit a really fun stride. The idea (parody of aftershows) isn't the most compelling, and I don't fault anyone for being turned off by the first episode, but they made it work. Plenty of repeat gags a la Zucker/Abrams/Proft films. I wish this one had caught on, I could have gladly watched another season.
This is Fred's
