Ten new celebrities and their professional singing partners are introduced, and tonight, they take on the swing or pop genres with their songs.
First to take the stage are swimmer Daniel Kowalski and his partner Kate Ceberano, who perform a swing number from Harry Connick Jr. The ease of their performance impresses the judges, but they comment that Daniel needs to concentrate on his stage presence. After Kate interviews them in the green room, the judges reveal their scores. Out of a possible 10, Marina scored them 5, James 5, Amanda 4 and Ross 6, for a total of 20 points.
Mentoring Big Brother housemate Krystal Forscutt is the boy from the bush, Troy Cassar-Daley, as they perform the classing swing song Moondance. Their harmonies come as a surprise to the judges, but they tell Krystal to go home and get her groove. Marina scored them 6, James 5, Amanda 5 and Ross 7, for a total of 23 points.
Next, Home and Away actor Bobby Morley and his partner Jade Macrae take on Bernard Fanning's ARIA award winning pop hit Wish You Well. The judges remark that their direction is quirky and their performance is engaging, but they need to work on their technique. Marina scored them 7, James 6, Amanda 7 and Ross 6, for a total of 26 points.
Comedian Russell Gilbert was the next to take the stage, along with his mentor Wendy Matthews. They hit the stage swinging with their performance of They Can't Take That Away From Me, impressing both the audience and judges. Marina scored them 7, James 6, Amanda 7 and Ross 7 for a total of 27 points.
They were followed by radio, TV and theatre personality Julia Zemiro and her partner, Screaming Jets rock-god Dave Gleeson, who hit the stage hard with their performance of the pop ballad Careless Whisper. The judges gave them a lot of encouragement, but also told them to work on their partnership and sing to win for the upcoming weeks. Marina scored them 6, James 5, Amanda 5 and Ross 6 for a total of 22 points.
TV presenter Lochie Daddo and his partner, Young Diva member Paulini were up next with the good time swing hit Come Fly With Me. The judges praised them for their nice presence, "dishy Daddo" and being beautiful, big and glamourous, but also told them to work on their notes and pitch. Marina scored them 6, James 5, Amanda 6 and Ross 5 for a total of 22 points.
Next, businesswoman and environmentalist Mimi Macpherson and her opera partner, David Hobson, took on the Pretenders' classic pop hit Brass In Pocket. The judges said that it was a great choice of song and tone, and a great sexy debut all in all, but they needed to work on their stage presence and their confidence. Marina, James, Amanda and Ross each scored them 7 for a total of 28 points.
Radio personality Jo Stanley and her partner, best-selling artist Anthony Callea, were up next with their performance of The Veronicas' pop hit 4Eva. The judges were impressed by the confidence in their performance, saying that in Jo, they had found their first "rock chick" of the series. Marina scored them 8, James 7, Amanda 7 and Ross 8 for a total of 30 points.
Next to take the stage were TV presenter Ernie Dingo and theatrical partner Rachael Beck, with their performance of the classic swing hit Wonderful World. Their confidence and emotion on the stage impressed the judges, who were looking forward to seeing more of them in the next few weeks. Marina scored them 7, James 5, Amanda 8 and Ross 6 for a total of 26 points.
The last couple to perform were All Saints actress Jolene Anderson and her theatrical partner David Campbell, who tackled Gwen Stefani's pop hit The Sweet Escape. The judges and audience were impressed by their confidence, playfulness and ability. The judges couldn't wait to see what they would do next week, and all four scored them 8 for a total of 32 points, the highest score of the night.
At the end of the performances, the voting lines were opened for the viewers to have their say on who they thought the best performers were.
