The northern hemisphere has now started its summer season, which means that we are anticipating high temperatures, high tensions, and highly-entertaining new films, some of which will come to the U.S. state of Florida, both in-person and via virtual offerings, during the Popcorn Frights Film Festival. The ninth edition will kick off August 10, 2023, with the world premiere of Deliver Us, described as "a sinister and dread-soaked tale that unveils an ancient prophecy where a nun defies the laws of nature and gives birth to both the messiah and the antichrist. Audiences will need to brace themselves for the unhinged chaos that will be released within the eerie confines of Savor Cinema, a state-of-the-art theater that was once a Methodist Church in the 1940s,...

When Italian sales company True Colours launched from Rome’s Mia market five years ago, international prospects for cinema Italiano titles that were not directed by a handful of name auteurs, such as Nanni Moretti, Matteo Garrone and Paolo Sorrentino, had gotten rather dim.
Italian cinema was being sold around the world mostly by foreign sales outfits that had become the preferred global channel for many of Italy’s producers, partly because they provided minimum guarantees that helped close their budgets and that local sellers could not afford. The problem was that lots of exportable Italian product was being overlooked.
“There was a gap,” says veteran distributor-producer Andrea Occhipinti, head of Lucky Red. As a producer, Occhipinti adds, he was unhappy with how his movies were being handled internationally by non-Italian companies. So in 2015 Lucky Red joined forces with production company Indigo Film (“The Great Beauty”) and they formed True Colours.

Dreamworks’ The Prince of Egypt has made its way to the Dominion Theatre, London, with the big numbers you remember from the film and the many challenges of putting things like the ten plagues and the parting of the sea on stage.
The two big numbers fans will remember, Deliver Us and When You Believe, are superbly done and won’t disappoint. They’re emotional, vocally impressive and have a big production feel. There are a few other really entertaining numbers dotted throughout the show, too. Sadly, these moments of brilliance are held together by an otherwise lacklustre production that just doesn’t grab the audience like it should. It’s all too inconsistent, jumping from brilliant to forgettable and back again.
The same can be said of the performances. Some are great and really engage with the audience. Most notably, Christine Allado’s Tzipporah is remarkable. She plays the...
