Funny and kinda realistic
User648282823 September 2021
It's pretty funny and entertaining and the stuff about Bart being sent death threats is pretty realistic if you see people today send death threats or racial slurs because Someone messed up a little bit.

The Boys of Bummer

Decent episode with lots of laughs as expected from a Simpsons episode. It's definitely mediocre in comparison to a myriad of other (mostly older) episodes, but a good episode overall.

Another hateful episode but this time it is targeted on Bart.
Theraxorterminate22 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Again, I don't mind watching the episodes that are outside the classic seasons mostly of them are not awful and exceeds to be worth watching. But this is another hateful episode that I got mad from watching it. What on Earth happened? I mean the premise of the beginning of the episode looked interesting but took a wrong turn like the episode "Bart-Mangled Banner."

The episode is about how Bart suddenly becomes the most hated person in Springfield after losing an important match for the Isotopes. What really bugs me with this episode is that it similarly repeats the same way they did with "Bart-Mangled Banner", yes the people hates Bart and even an ex- player didn't wanna give good advice! But what saddens me is that the episode didn't really have a good solution, I mean the solution was incredibly lazy only to make Bart feel better and lose his depression of the hatred he had to suffer. And even though it wouldn't have totally changed the minds of the people in Springfield to not hate him anymore. And the ending didn't really make it better it was just pathetic. This is another episode I would rather forget because it makes the show look pretty stupid.

Oh but what about the Homer plot? Well, it wasn't so spectacular either. Although it was a bit better than the Bart plot but I'm afraid that the ending of it was also pretty bad and lazy.

This episode lost a good opportunity to make it look better and could have given a more perspective and smarter ending. But no.

Is it recommended? No. If you have seen the other hateful episode "Bart- Mangled Banner" this is almost the very same. Ignore this.

Dont listen to other reviews
nicofreezer14 July 2022
Its not worst than any other Season 18 episodes. Not better but not worst , in the weakest season of the Simpsons so far " The boys of bummer" talk about sport fans beeing bullies over players for little mistakes in Big Games... This happen in Real life so it was nice to see this issue in the Simpsons. What is your problems guys, all the reviews i read are so stupid, you guys are in shock because everyone bullies Bart , but do you know Bart is not a Real person ? Flash news he is an animé characters, even in a sitcom it would be no problem talking about suicide and bullies, as long as its Funny, and as long as people watching are smart enough to know that the episode is against the abusive behavior of fans !

In the end everyone help Bart and we learn that bullies is Bad ! 7.5/10.

Why was this allowed on television?! This is the most mean spirited thing ever! Bart loses a baseball game and everyone hates him! It's so stupid because Baseball is not the most important thing ever! Oh and Bart tries to kill himself, but instead gets hospitalized! Everyone is just a jerk here just because a baseball game! This episode is DEFINITELY NOT worth your time!

Cruel but okay....meh.
tykepoolap16 August 2018
It's not really a bad episode like "The Principal and the Pauper", but it's still somehow seems kind of ...meh. Meh? Because this episode was really dark and cruel.

Sorry "Lisa Goes Gaga" haters, but this is the real worst episode of The Simpsons
At least in "Lisa Goes Gaga" the writers just seem lazy, this episode they try to make fun of a very serious subject, and it's unnecessarily dark and cruel.

The Worst Simpsons Episode I HAVE EVER SEEN!
adog200130 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is seriously like Spongebob's One Coarse Meal 2 years before it even existed, mainly because it includes a suicide scene, done worse than OCM I think because people still taunt Bart after he attempts suicide. It is done worse than OCM because OCM was just one person doing it there. Here it is buttloads of people harrasing him. Why? Because he couldn't catch a ball at the Isotopes Championship game and they lost because of it and the stadium tells people to throw beer at him and they even drive him in a police car so they can continue! He even tried to get help which also gets him taunted by a former baseball player to the point Bart cries and he starts spray painting "I HATE BART SIMPSON" all over Springfield until he attempts suicide. The ending isn't any better. Honestly, I hate this episode more than Lisa Goes Gaga. Lisa Goes Gaga was bad mainly because it was boring and Lisa was very unlikable, here everyone is so unlikable that this episode made me angry. I know it is a cartoon, but it doesn't make the episode better that it is not real. Same with One Coarse Meal and also Family Guy's Brian's A Bad Father, which also included a suicide "joke." Overall, if you love the Simpsons, DO NOT watch this episode, unless if you wanna see One Coarse Meal in Simpsons form. I give this episode a 1 out if 10

Worse than Lisa goes Gaga
celiawatsonanime19 January 2022
If you're depressed DO NOT WATCH this episode.

It's ridiculous, they should be worrying about something else that the whole town hates what Bart did so bad.

Even Sideshow Bob doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.

At least Lisa goes Gaga has a happy theme to it and is horrible.

Absolutely horrendous... Warning: Spoilers
Might include spoilers....

This is possibly the worst Simpsons episode it has ever been my displeasure to watch. Very thin plot, surprisingly unrealistic events, pathetic characters. When I say pathetic, I mean such occurrences as Lisa Simpson's poor effort. I can't remember the exact quote, but it was at the baseball game and she said something like..."Instead of baseball, why can't thousands of teachers inspire a child?" Forgive me if that's inaccurate, but anyway, that particular line was just so sissy, and weak, and just generally pathetic. I'm not one to moan about the Simpsons (surprisingly, you may think), it's a truly groundbreaking programme. But this episode has plummeted to new depths of total crap. A few of the characters, but Lisa especially, had ridiculously poor lines and actions throughout. One part involved Lisa having an idea. She said something like "I gots an idea" but she said it in such a manner that she sounded like a retarded hillbilly, and this was actually meant to entertain? Eugh. The side plot was also ridiculous, with the mattress thing. Nothing funny happened! You will notice that I gave it two stars out of ten; this is purely because once again, Homer was present with his token funny lines, making me laugh heavily, and that provided a very frail backbone to a show that has needed Homer to be funny for a few years now. Also, you can't give 0 out of 10 so 2 is being very generous. It's a real shame recently because like I said, The Simpsons is such a groundbreaking milestone in entertainment. But in the last few years, some ridiculously absurd plots have been churned out, and this lame effort takes the biscuit. Sh*te.

Just so mean spirited to Bart. All he did was miss a pitch, and the town drives him to attempting SUICIDE. It's not funny, and the jokes about it are not. I know older Simpsons could do better.

Worst. Simpsons. Episode. Ever.
thuffman-083432 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Oh, boy. This episode is where I decided to give up on the Simpsons. I had some gripes with the newer seasons, such as the couch gags getting too long and pointless celebrity appearances, but this was the final straw. What's the premise? Bart misses the winning catch at a baseball game and is suddenly treated as though he's some kind of war criminal. Okay, admittedly, Bart isn't the world's nicest kid, but even he doesn't deserve this! And then, the worst part comes: after being bullied by the town for so long, Bart attempts to kill himself by jumping off the water tower. Seriously!? Suicide is a very serious subject that should be treated as such! But, nope, here they decide to go "lol, suicide is funny". Bart survives, and the town continues to bully him, until Marge calls them out and shames them. But, rather than have the townspeople get some comeuppance or end the episode on a high note by apologizing to Bart, they replay the final inning. Okay, I'm no expert in sports, so, correct me if I'm wrong, but, I'm pretty sure that once you miss the winning catch, it's too late. The damage has been done. But, yup, because of the unnecessary cruelty of this episode and its mockery of suicide, I threw the towel in on the newer episodes. Just go back to the older episodes.

Was Michael Price trying to get the show canceled? Or does he just think Bart is his least favorite character?
ryancas2 September 2020
What was the writer of this episode thinking? Making Bart a social outcast over a little mistake at a baseball game wasn't a good idea. This is not my favorite episode, at all.

A basic recipe for a disastrous Simpsons episode.
Allosaurus264 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Who in the right mind would want to watch 30 cruel minutes of Bart Simpson getting scorned by Springfield over missing a baseball catch? Now add the townsfolk encouraging the poor kid to jump off a water tower and you get a basic recipe for a disastrous Simpsons episode.

Easily the worst episode of the entire series behind Lisa Goes Gaga
JigglypuffGuy29 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
To sum the plot up, Bart messes up a football game and the entire town starts to hate him, they bully and torment him, to the point where they encourage him to commit suicide!

I get that The Simpsons wanted criticize America as they care a bit too much about football, but this went WAY too far! Who exactly thought "Yeah, this is a good idea for an episode, Bart get bullied over a football game to the point where he commits suicide is super funny!". Even after Bart attempts suicide, the town still bully him by chanting "Bart Sucks"!

The subplot with Homer as a mattress salesman was kind of dull too but it was far better than the main plot itself.

Is there anything I like in this episode? The ending where Milhouse and Bart discuss about the game was quite funny and the part where Abe Simpson says "You Stink La Boot!" to Joe La Boot was carthardic as hell.

Overall, this episode despised this episode so much and I consider the absolute worst episode of the entire series behind Lisa Goes Gaga.

The Boys of the Bummer is my least favorite episode ever.
e_daneva8 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Boys of Bummer is the worst Simpsons episode. Every one in Springfield gets mad at Bart for losing a baseball game?!?!? Losing a baseball game?!?!? Does baseball really matter that much to Springfield?!?! If it did it should have been established earlier in the series. I mean, what happened to the kind people of Springfield in I'm Spelling as Fast as a Can who threw a party for Lisa when she got second place in the Spellympics. Really the whole episode you feel so bad for Bart Simpson. Even though he's a troublemaker, Bart never deserved this. Almost no one does. The only part I liked about the episode was the B. Plot ( or should I say the A. Plot ). I give this depressing episode a 2.4 out of 10.

Worst Simpsons episode ever!
Josephpr199024 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Despite The Simpsons being a great adult cartoon, this is one of the worst Simpsons episodes of all time! I've watched it on Sky 1 (now Sky Showcase) about few times and it's absolutely awful! I just hate it!

It follows the Springfield Isotots win a Little League championship game, but when Bart makes an error that costs the team the championship, the townspeople refuse to let him forget it. Poor Bart is being jeered by the townspeople for losing the game and they start disliking him so much. This has been driving Bart into madness and he attempts to commit suicide.

The character Joe LaBoot himself is being really unlikeable. He insults Bart for losing the game and he drives him into attempting suicide well. What an ungrateful jerk he is. I'd say he's probably one of the most hated characters in the entire Simpsons franchise.

It's utterly unwatchable and forgettable.

The bad new is the same episode is available on Disney Plus. I'll just have to totally ignore it and forget about it. This bad Simpsons episode shouldn't be available on Disney Plus. It should be removed from Disney Plus, you know.

Speaking of its episode title, it's definitely a real bummer.

If you're reading this, avoid it as you would an arrow.

Complete and Utter Purely Beautiful HORRENDOUS CRAP!!!
domangelog8 February 2016
This show is great, but this episode is the worst thing on television. Bart may be a hellish douchebag, but even THIS is a new low. For god's sake, the process of hatred for Bart is composed of cruelty, hypocrisy, and a cringe-worthy climax of Bart's mental anguish being summarized as an attempted suicide jump from atop a water tower. Even then, they STILL hate him. In the end, this is an episode that if you ever see, I pity you. It is a terrible waste of 22 minutes in which every second is regrettable, so don't watch it. If you plan on doing so, you must apparently like sadistic torture.

Well, there's also a subplot, and it is terribly tedious and awful crap. Basically, Homer becomes a matteress salesman. Whoop-de-fricking do! Who gives a crap? Oh yeah: NOBODY!!!

This is the episode that made me stop watching this show for a long time.
dragonwarriorxtreme25 March 2022
To honest love of God be almighty with his creations, the sin of the beast is far less bestial and cruel than the episode that has damaged my reputation of the show for a very long time. Next to Paths to Glory and Lisa Goes Gaga, this episode combines cheesy, corny writing and really unfunny jokes about suicide into one horrific package followed by an extremely unfunny, crappy slog of the town helping Bart "cheat" all for one cheesy future flashforward. There is nothing good about this.

Lisa Goes Gaga, in comparison, is just... boring. It's stupid, but not horrendous. Boys of Bummer repulsed me from watching new episodes of this show for 4-6 years.

Never watch Simpsons again.
olivia-8448017 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I knew the Simpsons wouldn't be a good show for their black comedy, treating serious topics like riotous. Ungrateful fans, alcohol abuse, man many adult-like pranks Bart does, but this is serious, Bart was abused and tortured thought the whole episode just because of one mistake, This is still going on today, whatever you see in the episode, is exactly what people did to every police officer when George Floyd was killed.

Thank god Marge snapped and lashed out at everyone for their abuse to Bart. It was almost as bad was seeing Lucy from Elfen Lied get driven to madness and commit mass murder because she also suffered abuse!

Never watch Simpsons again.

Another one of the worst Simpsons episodes following "Itchy and Scratchy The Movie"
opalpika132828 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't like the old episode, "Itchy and Scratchy The Movie" because of how unfair Bart got punished from seeing The Itchy and Scratchy Movie because he couldn't watch Maggie, and because of this punishment, it made him very depressed. Now this episode is even worse on Bart. After making a mistake at a Springfield Isotope baseball game, the whole town ridicules and humiliates Bart. The town continue to make Bart feel bad, and Lisa tries to help him by taking him to a baseball player named Laboot, only for him to also ridicule Bart once he finds out who he is. Then this is where it gets dark for a Simpsons episode: Bart had gone insane and painted "I HATE BART SIMPSON" all over town, climbs on a water tower, and attempts to commit suicide with the town even encouraging this action. Laboot attempts to save Bart, but fails to, and he ends up in the hospital in a coma. Even so, the town STILL ridicules Bart over the baseball game mistake, but Marge stands up to them. After so many retries, the town apparently stop bothering Bart over his mistake, however the ending didn't really help. Not even Homer's side story about a mattress could save this episode. It's really unexpected for them to make a Simpsons episode this dark and depressing. Definitely not a episode worth watching.

Worst simpson episode next to Lisa Goes Gaga
arielsiere10 June 2022
I feel bad for the poor Bart Simpson who has been booed by the entire audience only for a little mistake this reminds of the 2005 Disney movie called Chicken Little a movie that also got hated by lots of people, all the citizens of Springfield went unpunished after driving Bart to suicide.
