There are a lot of young film makers out there and for most of them, the way to get noticed these days is to make a short film and hope it does well on the festival circuit or on the internet. Markus Wambsganss is one of these individuals and I just saw his short LIGHTNING BOLTS AND MANS HANDS. While the film is far from perfect, there is a lot to admire about the film. In particular, the camera work is lovely and so is the narrative. My only complaints are the bizarre title of the film and the song that permeates throughout the short. The song's style is fine for the action, but the words and quality were very poor and sounded like some random person who just picked up a guitar and started composing on the spot--the lyrics were just awful. Still, aside from that, this is an interesting and well-composed film and I hope to see more from Markus in the future.
