Not that bad
Erik-Einar-Larsen24 July 2020
I watched the film because of kbruestle's annihilating comment. From the 3rd episode I liked the film, although it contains some unnecessary scenes with dying fish. The characters are played well (could'nt see it in french), the ambient is only a little creepy, the music is present but not annoying and after episode 3 I wanted so see episode 4 and so on. I do not regret to spend 5 hours viewing. For me, it's another interpretation of perhaps the best crime novel ever. It's worth looking at.

They Were Ten
Tweekums2 December 2022
This six part French series is based on the Agatha Christie classic 'And Then There Were None'. Ten people, five men and five women, are invited to a remote private island in the Caribbean. Most expect to meet somebody there at a deluxe hotel, instead they find a rundown establishment where the only staff are newly arrived and count amongst the ten. At first they are irritated but tensions rise exponentially when it becomes clear that the jungle surrounding the hotel is full of booby-traps and the water is poisoned. Somebody unknown to them suggests that all of them are somehow responsible for a murder, for which they will now be punished. Soon their numbers start being reduced. Meanwhile on the mainland the local police are worrying about one of the women who had earlier reported her passport missing buy now can't be found.

There have been many adaptations of this classic murder mystery and I think this was a good addition to their number. The setting is good and the characters are of interestingly diverse backgrounds. This means that each has a unique backstory that led to them getting the deadly invitations. There are some obvious changes from other adaptations I've seen. These include extended flashbacks were we see the characters' crimes and the scenes involving the police. I rather enjoyed these changes and thought they added to the story in a way that justified the use of six episodes. The tension rises impressively as the story progresses, especially after the various survivors turn on each other as they believe that one of their number is behind what is happening. The cast does a solid job bringing their characters to life. Overall I'd recommend this to fans of classic murder mysteries looking for a new adaptation of this famous story.

These comments are based on watching the series in French with English subtitles.

Overly long, but still a good adaptation of the classic Agatha Christie story

Warning: Spoilers
I binged-watched the series over two successive days, and don't regret it. Still, even at 6 episodes (rather than the usual 8 or 10), this is overly long; it could easily have been shortened to 4 episodes. The Caribbean island setting, with all its lush color, and the decrepit resort, work well - probably much better than the windswept English island of the old black and white movie. All in all, it's a good adaptation of the classic Agatha Christie story. If you know that story, however, you'll know who the killer is about midway, especially since this version omits the one plot device that created so much misdirection in the original movie.

Unbelievable.
Harfy10 December 2020
This movie isn't really bad, but there are so many inconsistencies :
  • it's easy to guess who the killer is, even if you didn't read the book ;
  • people keep doing stupid things ;
  • people should stay together, but guess ? They're roaming around all alone ;
  • the killer couldn't do everything alone as depicted ;
  • there are facts that the killer couldn't know ;
  • the characters are way too stereotypical...

I give 3 stars because I don't like nonsensical stories.

I don't understand the stupid part of killing a dog in series or movies. Belive me, this is the only living being we want to survive...

Suspenseful and fast paced
sparklefish28 May 2022
I enjoyed watching this fast-paced and suspenseful murder mystery. The set styling is excellent, kind of a tropical noir. I loved the visuals!

Most of the acting was good. Some of the scenes were too over the top with screaming and fighting. Overall, I was interested to see what would happen next and watched several episodes straight through and then the next day was looking forward to watching more.

Since I haven't read the original book or seen any of the other tv or film adaptations, I wasn't comparing this version to anything else the way most other reviewers were. It is an engaging thriller on its own without trying to make it measure up to a standard of what has been done before.

Terrific revitalization of an oft-told tale
gridoon20242 April 2023
After so many film and TV adaptations of Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None", if you decide to make one more version then staying faithful to it would be an obvious folly; thankfully, the creators of "Ils Etaint Dix" have massively re-invented the story, while retaining, more or less, its central plot devices. At the same time, they did not employ the parodistic tone of the long-running, and even more liberal, French series "The Little Murders Of Agatha Christie"; the mood here is much more grim and nihilistic. It is only fitting that the woman who practically invented the slasher genre, at least in its literary form, has now her own work adapted in the style of a slasher show, albeit a considerably less bloody and gory one than you might expect from the director of the notorious French torture-porn film "Martyrs". The series boasts lush island scenery, some cracking suspense sequences, compelling flashbaks (each one a mini little whodunit on its own), a rock-solid cast (Manon Azem is fire 🔥 every inch of her is hot) and a perfect running time (6 episodes). Highly recommended, especially if you like shows in the vein of "Le Chalet", "Harper's Island", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", etc. 8/10.
