- Captain Jack Harkness: But I keep wondering, what about aging? Cause I can't die but I keep getting older, the odd little, gray hair, you know? What happens if I live for a million years?
- The Doctor: I really don't know.
- Captain Jack Harkness: Ok, vanity, sorry. Yeah... can't help it. Used to be a poster boy when I was a kid, living in the Bo-shang peninsula... tiny little place. I was the first one ever to be signed up for the Time Agency, they were so proud of me. The Face of Bo they called me... hummm! I'll see you!
- [Jack turns and leaves]
- Martha Jones: [Martha gets an stunned look on her face and taps the doctor on the arm to get his attention]
- The Doctor: [in disbelief] No.
- Martha Jones: [incredulously] It can't be!
- The Doctor: [still in disbelief] No. Definitely not, no.
- Martha Jones: [Martha begins to laugh]
- The Doctor: No!
- [the Doctor begins to laugh as he realizes Jack may very well be his old friend the mysterious Face of Bo]
- The Doctor: [the Doctor rejuvenates] One thing you can't do, is stop them thinking.
- [the Doctor hovers upwards and Martha and Jack exclaim]
- The Doctor: [to the Master] Tell me the human race is degenerate now. Or they can do this!
- [Martha runs to her family]
- The Master: NO!
- [the Master shoots the Doctor with his Laser Screwdriver, but it has no effect]
- The Doctor: I'm sorry.
- [the Master fires his Laser Screwdriver at the Doctor again but it has no effect]
- The Doctor: I'm so sorry.
- The Master: [increases the power of the Laser Screwdriver] Then I'll kill them!
- [the Master points it at Martha and her family, but the Doctor puts his hand out and the Laser Screwdriver flies out of the Master's hand]
- The Master: [to the Doctor] You can't do this! YOU CAN'T DO THIS! IT'S NOT FAIR!
- The Doctor: Then you know what happens now.
- [the Doctor starts to hover towards the Master]
- The Master: [scared] No! NO! NO! NO!
- The Doctor: [serious] You wouldn't listen...
- The Master: [cowering] NO!
- The Doctor: [serious] 'Cause you know what I'm gonna say.
- The Master: [terrified] No!
- [the Doctor touches down, the glow of light vanishes, the Doctor kneels next to the Master and puts his arms around him]
- The Doctor: I forgive you.
- Martha Jones: I travelled across the world. From the ruins of New York, to the fusion mills of China, right across the radiation pits of Europe. And everywhere I went I saw people just like you, living as slaves! But if Martha Jones became a legend then that's wrong, because my name isn't important. There's someone else. The man who sent me out there, the man who told me to walk the Earth. And his name is The Doctor. He has saved your lives so many times and you never even knew he was there. He never stops. He never stays. He never asks to be thanked. But I've seen him, I know him... I love him... And I know what he can do.
- [last lines]
- [the Doctor presses a button. There is an almighty crash as a steam powered ship collides with the Tardis]
- The Doctor: [bewildered] What?
- [coughs as dust settles]
- The Doctor: What?
- [picks up an old fashioned wooden lifebelt and turns it over to find the words: 'R.M.S. Titanic' printed on it]
- The Doctor: [ominously] What?
- The Master: You still haven't answered the question. What happens to me?
- The Doctor: You're my responsibility from now on. The only Time Lord left in existence.
- Captain Jack Harkness: Yeah, but you can't trust him.
- The Doctor: No. The only safe place for him is the TARDIS.
- The Master: You mean, you're just gonna... keep me?
- The Doctor: If that's what I have to do. It's time to change. Maybe I've been wandering for too long. Now I've got someone to care for.
- The Master: I took Lucy to Utopia. A Time Lord and his human companion. I took her to see the stars. Isn't that right, sweetheart?
- Lucy Saxon: Trillions of years into the future, to the end of the universe.
- The Master: Tell him what you saw.
- Lucy Saxon: Dying. Everything dying. The whole of creation was falling apart and I thought there's no point. No point to anything. Not ever.
- The Master: And it's all your fault.
- Captain Jack Harkness: Morning Tish! Ahh, smell that sea air! Makes me long for good-old British Fish and Chips, ha! And what do I get? Cold mashed swede. Some hotel; last time I book over the internet.
- The Master: I remember the days when the Doctor, oh, that famous Doctor... was waging a Time War, battling Sea Devils, and Axons, he sealed the Rift at the Medusa Cascade, single handed. And look at him now, stealing screwdrivers... How did he ever come to this? Oh yes! Me!
- The Doctor: I just... need you to listen.
- The Master: No, it's my turn. Revenge. Best served hot.
- The Master: It's ready to rise, Doctor. The new Time Lord empire, it's good isn't it? Isn't it good? Anything?
- [the Doctor stares blankly at the Toclafane]
- The Master: No? Anything? Oh, but they broke your hearts, didn't they? Those Toclafane... Ever since you worked out what they really are.
- Toclafane: But then the Master came with his wonderful time machine to bring us back home.
- Professor Doherty: But that's a paradox. If you're the future of the human race, and you've come back to murder your ancestors. You should cancel yourselves out. You shouldn't exist!
- Martha Jones: And that's the paradox machine.
- Martha Jones: The Utopia Project was the last hope, trying to find a way to escape the end of everything.
- Toclafane: There was no solution. No diamonds. Just the dark and the cold.
- The Master: I ask you, how much hope has this man got?
- [to the Doctor]
- The Master: Say hello, Gandalf... Except, he's not that old. But he's an alien with a much greater lifespan than you, stunted little apes. What if it showed?
- [to The Doctor]
- The Master: What if I suspend your capacity to regenerate? All nine hundred years of your life, Doctor. What if we could see them?
- The Master: Dying in your arms... happy now?
- The Doctor: You're not dying, don't be stupid. It's only a bullet, just regenerate.
- The Master: No.
- The Doctor: One little bullet, come on.
- The Master: I guess you don't know me so well... I refuse.
- The Doctor: [desperate] Regenerate. Just regenerate! Please, please! Just regenerate, come on!
- The Master: And spend the rest of my life imprisoned with you?
- The Master: You should've seen it, Doctor. Furnaces burning. The last of humanity screaming at the dark.
- The Doctor: You've got to! Come on. It can't end like this. You and me, all the things we've done. Axons! Remember the Axons? And the Daleks. We're the only two left. There's no one else... REGENERATE!
- The Master: Heh... how about that? I win.
- The Master: Ever since I was a child... I looked into the Vortex and that's when it chose me. The Drumming. The Call. To War.
- [on the Paradox machine]
- The Master: My masterpiece, Doctor. A living TARDIS, strong enough to hold the paradox in place, allowing the past and the future to collide in infinite majesty.
- The Doctor: But you're changing history. Not just Earth, the entire universe.
- The Master: I'm a Time Lord. I have that right.
- The Doctor: But even then... why come all this way just to destroy?
- Toclafane: We come backwards in time, all to build a brand new empire lasting one hundred trillion years.
- The Master: With me as their master. Time Lord and humans combined. Haven't you always dreamt of that, Doctor?
- The Master: Tomorrow they launch. We're opening up a rift in the Bracatolian Space. Won't see us coming. Be kind of scary.
- The Doctor: Then stop.
- The Master: Once the Empire is established and there's a new Gallifrey in the heavens, maybe then it stops. The drumming. The never-ending drumbeat.
- [the Master points his laser screwdriver at Martha]
- The Master: And now good companion, your work is done.
- The Doctor: [to the master] Weapon, after weapon, after weapon. All you do is talk, and talk, and talk. But over all these years... and all these disasters, I've always had the greatest secret of them all. I know you. Explode those ships, you kill yourself... that's the one thing you can never do.
- Thomas Milligan: But what about us? We're the same species, why do you kill so many of us?
- Toclafane: Because it's fun!
- [it laughs manically]
- The Master: Three minutes to align the black-hole converters. Counting down! I never could resist a ticking clock... My children! Are you ready?
- Toclafane: We'll fly and blaze and slice! We'll fly and blaze and slice!
- The Master: At zero, to mark this day, the child Martha Jones will die.
- [grins]
- The Master: My first blood.
- The Master: If I can't have this world, Doctor, then neither can you! We shall stand upon this Earth, together, as it burns!
- The Master: Didn't you learn anything from the blessed Saint Martha? Siding with the Doctor... is a very dangerous thing to do.
- The Doctor: Martha Jones, you saved the world.
- Martha Jones: Yes, I did. I spent a lot of time with you thinking I was second best, but you know what? I am good. You gonna be all right?
- The Doctor: Always, yeah.
- Martha Jones: Right then. Bye.
- [exits the TARDIS, hesitates, then goes back inside]
- Martha Jones: Because the thing is, it's like my friend Vicky. She lived with this bloke - student housing, five of them all packed in. And this bloke was called Sean. And she loved him. She did. Completely adored him. Spent all day long talking about him.
- The Doctor: Is this going anywhere?
- Martha Jones: Yes. 'Cause he never looked at her twice. I mean, he liked her. That was it. And she wasted years pining after him. Years of her life. 'Cause while he was around, she never looked at anyone else. And I told her, I always said to her, time and time again, I said, "Get out." So, this is me, getting out.
- [tosses her mobile phone to the Doctor]
- Martha Jones: Keep that. 'Cause I'm not having you disappear. If that rings - when that rings, you'd better come running. You got it?
- The Doctor: Got it.
- Martha Jones: I'll see you again, mister.
