Two young girls are killed on railway by a passing train. It does not seem to fit the profile of a normal suicide. So if this is a double homicide who would do this and why? Martin Beck and his team start following the step backwards in order to figure out what has happened. With good and intensive police work they find man side trails from the main path.

I think this movie was average on the Beck-scale, however along with many other Beck movies: it is seldom clear who is responsible until the end. And who wants to see a movie when the outcome is clear to the viewer when the 2 first minutes has passed?

Detective Tale with a Social Conscience
l_rawjalaurence1 August 2016
This 2007 series of the detective drama has been more serious in terms of content than its predecessors. While the regular group of detectives are still there, dedicated to solving crimes at all costs, the cases they are dealing with are far nastier.

"The Silent Scream" begins with two teenagers (Marall Nasiri, Karin Bogaeus) who are crushed to death on a railway-line by an express train. The driver is in no way to blame; either the victims were drugged or they committed suicide. This shocking incident paves the way for an intricate tale of feckless mothers, dominant fathers, and child abuse; no one, it seems, is immune from exploitation. Sometimes we long for Gunvald (Mikael Persbrandt) to take the most elemental form of revenge on the suspects by giving them a good hiding; but of course, this is not really ethical.

Harald Hamrell's production creates a dystopian world of shadows, threatening parkland, and tall, anonymous-looking apartment-blocks where anything, it seems, can happen. No one seems especially interested in their fellow human beings, except for the purposes of exploitation. The ending, when it comes, is to be expected; but we understand that nothing else could really happen in this kind of environment.

There is a subplot of sorts, as Beck (Peter Haber) tries to deal with persistent toothache, but this is little more than a minor diversion in a film noir-esque episode.

Beck – The Silent Scream
Tweekums30 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
When two fifteen year old girls are killed by a train it is initially thought that they probably committed suicide but when the police find signs that there may have been a third person present and discover that the girls had been drugged it becomes a murder inquiry. While Oskar searches for the third person, who appears to be a local homeless man, the rest of the team find other suspects. These include the school bully who had previously dated one of the girls and posted naked pictures of her after she ended their relationship, the gymnastics coach who seemed a bit too close to the other girl and a man who posed as a girl on line to lure girls to a meeting with a 'professional photographer'.

This was a solid episode that keeps the viewer guessing till the end. There are plenty of suspects, most of whom are guilty of something criminal even if they didn't commit murder. While most of the episode is devoting to investigating these girls' deaths there is also a sense of ongoing threat as we see another girl being groomed and meeting the photographer. The nature of what happened makes it a bit depressing at times but this is lightened by Beck's refusal to get his toothache treated. As usual the cast does a good job.

These comments are based on watching the episode in Swedish with English subtitles.

Are two teenage girls murded or is it a suicid
andreas-sellfors9 April 2018
Two teenage girls are crossed by a commuter train at dawn outside Flemingsberg. At first, it seems to be a very tragic accident. But the local police unit still wants Martin Beck to take a look. After all, much of the evidens suggests that the girls were forced on the track. Yes, someone seems to have used the commuter tran as the murder weapon. But why bee so brutal? it really produce a big headgear to Beck and his team, becouse as more as they starting to know about the girls, is they left whit the feeling, that they could bee dealing whit an totally randown killer. Or the girls could have committed suicid. And to your surprice are not going to tell you the truth about that in this review
