The Dick Cavett Show (1971)

June 29, 1971: Kirk Douglas

If you're a fan of Kirk Douglas then this appearance on The Dick Cavett Show is certainly a must-see as there are some great discussions here as well as some very funny stories. Douglas was on the show to promote A GUNFIGHT, a film that he was promoting with Johnny Cash so there's some nice discussion about that movie but he also talks about his least favorite movie (THE BIG TREES), his various leading ladies and a hilarious bit on John Wayne and his politics. Cavett is also in fine form asking some great questions and the two really go back and forth at one another as if they had been friends for decades. What was really great about this interview and especially compared to the bad interviews of the day is that there's an actual discussion here. Just two people discussing and at the end of the episode you can't help but feel that you've seen something real. It's certainly fun to say the least. I watched this on the 100th birthday of Douglas so it's amazing to watch this and then know he's still around in 2016.
