I saw this last month at the 2008 Palm Springs International Short Fest. Maunuel (Javier Veiga) is a popular writer and screenwriter who lives alone in his Madrid apartment and as he sits down to his computer to work on his latest project a beautiful woman (Marián Álvarez) suddenly shows up at his door and announces she is a big fan of his and is moving in with him. She introduces herself as the woman he is fated to love. The mysterious and assertive woman at first tells him her name but later on in a conversation she refers to herself as a different name. Manuel is concerned that this could be a mentally unstable stalker and wants her to be on her way but she is not a woman who will take no for an answer. Álvarez won Best Actress at the Locarno Film Festival for her role in this short and it's played multiple film festivals worldwide since it's November 2007 release. Veiga directs and wrote the screenplay. Veiga and Álvarez have an immediate on screen chemistry and are the only actors in the film. It's set is only the apartment and it's balcony and the rapid fire dialog that alternates between playful exchange and serious discussion is reminiscent of a one act play. The film has a great look to it thanks to cinematographer Chechu Graf, production designer Jorge Dorado and art direction by Julio Torrecilla. I really liked this film and would give it a 9.0 out of 10 and recommend it.
