Lots of action, little story
Horst_In_Translation18 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Mission Zero" is an 8-minute live action short film from 2007, so this one has its 10th anniversary this year and there are two really big names attached to this project, namely Kathryn Bigelow who is the director here and made this little film a while before her Oscar win and lead actress Uma Thurman that everybody knows of course from her works with Quentin Tarantino of course. And there were actually a couple moments that felt a bit as if they were taken from "Kill Bill", especially the knife fight sequence at the restaurant. Thurman is driving a car and there are several people out there trying to kill her, maybe at least as many want her dead as in Kill Bill and all this only for a runtime of under 10 minutes. But sadly, eventually it is nothing more really than an overlong tire commercial as this one was ordered by Pirelli and looking at the names working on it they weren't shy of paying a huge sum of money here. The writers are the same names basically who came up with the equally forgettable Pirelli short film "The Call" starring John Malkovich. So yeah, this one here is worth checking out only for those who absolutely adore stuff like the "Fast&Furious" movies. Everybody else can skip it.

A commercial for car tyres

Warning: Spoilers
A short sequence of a car chase - beautiful car (Lamborghini) driven by a beautiful girl (Uma Thurman) chased, shot at, even when she gets out of the car she is attacked. But the chase sequences are very tame and lack any sense of excitement, no doubt the makers of this advert didn't want to damage such an expensive car, but it rather stretches belief when the car acquires numerous bullet holes but otherwise remains immaculate and continues to be fully drivable, while Uma Thurman acquires various bloody wounds and also remains fully functional.

(spoiler coming up) It does make a bit more sense when you see the ending, which is that she is actually doing this as a virtual reality video game in the tyre dealer's showroom and she emerges unscathed from the VR headset.

Even as a free download it is not worth watching.

Yellow Lamborghini with Uma driving! Hell, Yeah!

In my book, Kathryn Bigelow is a great director. I like almost all of her films including horror road movie "Near Dark", cool thriller "Blue Steel", action filled "Point Break" and SF master-peace "Strange Days".

Unfortinatly for the last ten years or so, her career is slowing down. I hope that her new film will be return to form - and until then we have "Mission Zero"

"Mission Zero" is a neat action packed short movie, starring the one and only Uma Thurman. The story is simple, but kind of cool: a sexy woman (Thurman) is chased around the city in her yellow Lamborghiniby. The killers are everywhere.

Bigelow delivers good action peace - it is short and kind of pointless, but it's fun times. The fans of Uma and "Kill Bill" will be delighted to see her as an action heroine once more.
