It's obviously that boss Ron Silver is quite jealous over the arrival of Susan's old college boyfriend Granville Van Dusen, a rather cocky politician who wants her back but obviously has some sort of an agenda that Silver is quite suspicious of. He obviously sees through Van Dusen's charm especially when he starts treating Susan (Stockard Channing) with passive aggressive condensation. Silver's obviously setting his rival up for a fall, and
it's funny to watch the moderate feminist Susan lose it every time she's treated by both men as "the little woman".
Joy Garrett and Valorie Armstrong are amusing in other guest roles with Garrett a bubbly secretary and Armstrong wife to station owner Max Showalter. Channing is delightful as she turns the tables on her old boyfriend and manages to call her boss out without seeming cheeky.
