This odd, short silent mixes live action and animation as a couple of mischievous kids send 'Pa' to Mars in a rocket, where he encounters a dodo-bird and some belligerent Martians (some of whom may be based on African stereotypes). The animation is typical of the 1920s, looking vaguely like something Windsor McKay might draw, and the images of Pa flying through a fairly crowded outer space, bumping into planets, getting poked by a pointy star, grabbing constellations etc. Look like animated scenes of one of Méliès' space fantasies. The film is really only of interest as a sci-fi relic but is worth investing four minutes of screen time in. Available online through The Library of Congress. Producer C. C. Barr produced and/or directed a number of shorts including the 'Torchy' series starring Johnny Hines.
