William Eddy (c.1818-1859) had threatened to kill German immigrant Lewis Keseberg (b.~1814-unk) after Keseberg admitted that he had eaten the remains of Eddy's, James (1843-1847).
Contrary to popular belief, Lansford Hastings (1819-1870) did not encourage pioneers to take the Hastings Cutoff. He described it in one sentence as a possible route in his book, "The Emigrants Guide to Oregon and California."
