Nigella Lawson's new BBC Two series got off to an impressive start in the ratings on Monday night. Nigella's Christmas Kitchen, a three-part guide to preparing festive food treats, opened with a mighty 3.62m (14.8%) at 8.30pm on Monday. It followed on from the latest University Challenge, which was up to 3.02m (12.4%). BBC Two was comfortably ahead of Five's The Gadget Show, which had 1.17m (4.8%) for the hour, and Channel 4's The Ascent Of Money, with 1.05m (4.3%). A new episode of Taggart brought in 5.67m (24.8%) to ITV1 in the 9pm hour, giving it the edge over BBC One's Crimewatch, which had 4.64m (20.2%).
