- Uncle Iroh: [to Zuko, after Aang has escaped] It was not by chance that for generations people have been searching for him, and now you have found him. Your destinies are tied, Zuko.
- Aang: Earthbenders! Why are you acting this way? You are powerful and amazing people! You don't need to live like this! There is earth right beneath your feet! The ground is an extension of who you are!
- Uncle Iroh: There are a lot of pretty girls here Zuko. You could settle down here, and you could have a blessed life. You don't have to continue this Zuko.
- Prince Zuko: I will show you why we must Uncle. Hey, hey little one, come here. You look like a very smart boy. Tell me what you know about the Prince; the Firelord's son. He spoke out of turn to a general, in defense... for some of his friends, who were going to be sacrificed in a battle. Then Prince Zuko was sentenced to an Agni Kai duel, but when he showed up, it was his father he was to fight. He would not fight his father. Then, his father mocked him, and said, I should bring your sister over here to beat you. Then the father burnt his son, to teach him a lesson. We'll catch him soon Uncle, then we could think about the pretty girls.
- [first lines]
- Katara: A hundred years ago all was right with our world. Prosperity and peace filled our days. / The four Nations: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air Nomads lived amongst each other in harmony. / Great respect was afforded to all those who could bend their natural element. / The Avatar was the only person born amongst all the nations who could master all four elements. / He was the only one who could communicate with the Spirit World. With the Spirits' guidance the Avatar kept balance in the world. / A hundred years ago, he just disappeared.
- Prince Zuko: [after Aang has completed the test] You are my prisoner.
- Aang: What? But you said...
- Uncle Iroh: I should have explained more. If you failed the test, you'd be free to go. But you're the only one who has been able to pass the test. It is an honor to be in your presence.
- [bowing slightly]
- Uncle Iroh: To meet a Spirit would be a great honor.
- Commander Zhao: I hope I can give you that honor.
- Uncle Iroh: Be sure to keep your uniform closed up to the neck, and remember, your chi can warm you.
- Princess Yue: This time we show the Fire Nation that we believe in our beliefs as much as they believe in theirs!
- Princess Yue: We have to show them that we believe in our beliefs as much as they believe in theirs.
- Prince Zuko: [preparing to fight] Who are you?
- Katara: My name is Katara. And I'm the only Waterbender left in the Southern Water Tribe.
- [Aang, Katara and Sokka have come across a barren field littered with skeletons]
- Katara: Aang, I think you were in that ice... for almost a hundred years. The firebenders started a war.
- Aang: [crying] I left a few days ago.
- Katara: Aang, the Fire Nation knew that the Avatar would be born into the Air Nomads, so they exterminated all the Air Nomads.
- Aang: [steps on a bone, breaking it in two] You're lying!
- Katara: [to Aang as the Water Nation bows to Aang] They want you to be their avatar... We all do.
- [Bows to Aang]
- Commander Zhao: Again, I offer my condolences on your nephew burning to death in that terrible accident.
- Uncle Iroh: [to Zuko about Aang] It was not by chance that for generations people have been searching for him, and now you have found him.
- Fire Lord Ozai: You think my son is this person the soldiers are calling the Blue Spirit?
- Commander Zhao: Yes.
- Fire Bender: Those who could not Bend were allowed to live in peace.
