- Charles Logan: Martha, I'm sorry. The last thing I wanted to do was upset you.
- Martha Logan: You always managed to get to that last thing.
- Bill Buchanan: [In an interrogation room] I'm sorry, we're going to have to reschedule our debrief
- Charles Logan: Why?
- Bill Buchanan: We have an "immediate" situation at the Russian Consulate
- Charles Logan: Does this have something to do with Bauer going back in there to get Markov?
- Charles Logan: [after Logan notices Buchanan is reluctant to tell him of the situation] please? Maybe I can help?
- Bill Buchanan: Jack was able to get Gredenko's location from Markov: he tried to "call" us but was cut off before he could say more. His either being held prisoner inside the Consulate or is being pursued
- Charles Logan: Then I was right, Markov is involved and he will do whatever it takes to keep Jack quiet
- Bill Buchanan: We have to extricate Jack and failing that, we have to go in to remove Markov and interrogate him ourselves
- Charles Logan: We don't have time to go through the "red tape"
- Bill Buchanan: There isn't going to be any "red tape", I'm launching an assault team
- Charles Logan: No, that is a huge mistake: Markov will not let himself be taken alive and he will kill Jack Bauer
- Bill Buchanan: We have to try "something", we're running out of options
- Charles Logan: Have you tried any pressure from the top? From President Suvarov?
- Bill Buchanan: Vice-President Daniels has spoken to Suvarov, his reluctant to act: it's a diplomatic standoff
- Charles Logan: He needs to be "convinced" to get involved
- Bill Buchanan: I don't know how to do that
- Charles Logan: I do
- Bill Buchanan: How?
- Charles Logan: My ex-wife Martha, she became friends with the Suvarovs especially the wife. Anya can get through to Yuri, he listens to her. They're a very good team
- Bill Buchanan: With all due respect, hasn't Mrs. Logan been institutionalized?
- Charles Logan: That's beside the point: she's in a "unique" position to help us
- Bill Buchanan: Alright, I'll put a call into her
- Charles Logan: Let me do it. Martha can be very difficult. I think it would best if I talk to her
- Bill Buchanan: I didn't realize you were on "speaking terms"
- Charles Logan: We're not but I think I can get through to her, I know I can, please let me try
- Vice President Noah Daniels: So, have you given any thought to our earlier conversation?
- Tom Lennox: Yes I have sir
- Vice President Noah Daniels: And?
- Tom Lennox: And I agree that the priority here is to protect our country and I am prepared to "look the other way" regarding "details" of the assassination plot "to a point"
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Well, what does that mean?
- Tom Lennox: It means the truth must ultimately come out: Reed and Carson need to be punished for what they did
- Vice President Noah Daniels: And they will. Look, all I'm trying to do is to keep America united. I can't have our critics screaming "Look how bad we are, we're worst than the terrorists." We need to keep our eye on the ball right now
- Tom Lennox: On that point sir, we are in complete agreement
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Good because I need you to tell the Ambassador and Assad's country that you saw Assad plant the bomb that injured the President
- Tom Lennox: Sir, "looking the other way" is one thing but choosing to tell a lie to the Ambassador, that becomes a matter of public record
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Now you listen to me, if we expect to navigate through this crisis, I need you to "cooperate"
- Tom Lennox: Yes and I would like to "cooperate..."
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Interrupts him, raises his voice] I'm still talking. Come on, let's just "count our blessings" here for a minute: President Palmer survived this awful attack and neither you nor I had anything to do with this heinous plot to kill him and the most beautiful fact of all is that we now have the opportunity to implement the correct policy to stop these terrorists lunatics. Can you just put aside your distastes for my methods for one minute and think about the great gifts that have been given to us?
- Tom Lennox: I will think long and hard sir
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Good. Now I need you to tell the Ambassador that Assad carried in the bomb, I'll take it from there ok?
- Tom Lennox: Sir, I would like to know what you "hope" to "achieve" in your talk with the Ambassador
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I want him to know that we'll hold his country responsible for "all of it." The nuke and the assignation attempt: they need to be "motivated" to rein in these terrorists and I want them to know America is mad as hell and is ready to retaliate with a nuclear "option"
- Bill Buchanan: [while entering the conference room] alright, I want to introduce everyone to Mike Doyle: his the new head of Field Ops just in from Fort Bragg. I want all tactical and COMM agents to report to him directly. Jack Bauer is currently being held captive in the Russian Consulate, I haven't opened up that information to anyone on the outside. Doyle will help you put a tactical profile together for an assault on the Consulate
- Milo Pressman: So we're prepared to provoke an international incident just to "liberate" one of our own operatives?
- Mike Doyle: No, "liberating" Jack is a secondary goal: our "primary" objective is to abduct Anatoly Markov, the Consul. Now according to Jack, Markov knows how to find Gredenko who controls the remaining three suitcase nukes
- Milo Pressman: Excuse me. Is nobody worried that this can be considered an "act of war" against the Russians?
- Bill Buchanan: Ultimately, it's the Vice-President's decision, if we go in or not. If Jack is right and Markov is working with Gredenko, the Russians will have to back down
- Chloe O'Brian: [after entering the conference room] Sir, Logan is ready for you
- Bill Buchanan: [to Chloe] thank you
- Bill Buchanan: [to everyone, while leaving] I want a comprehensive search profile on my desk ASAP
- Mike Doyle: Who has the control keys for the main servers?
- Nadia Yassir: I do
- Mike Doyle: Bracket the scenarios into three, I want projected outcomes based on different levels of personnel
- Milo Pressman: [to Doyle] "Normally" when we run a general attack assessment...
- Mike Doyle: [Interrupts him] I don't care what you "normally" do and I wasn't speaking to you, I was talking with her
- Milo Pressman: Yeah, it was so weird I had this "thought" that you might come here and not be a jerk, like you were in Denver but you are
- Mike Doyle: That's right, just like Denver
- Mike Doyle: [to everyone] let's get to work
- Charles Logan: [after Aaron leaves Martha's bedroom] what's the matter?
- Aaron Pierce: [Referring to her originally agreeing to see Charles] apparently she's changed her mind. I'm sorry but she doesn't want to see you
- Charles Logan: [Walks up to him] you have to convince her this is not about "us." This is for the good of the country
- Aaron Pierce: I told her that
- Charles Logan: Look, if we don't do something in the next few minutes, there's going to be a US led assault on the Russian Consulate here in Los Angeles: along with everything else, we will have effectively be at war with Russia
- Martha Logan: [to Charles after emerging from the bedroom] you've lost weight. So this is the "new and improved" Charles Logan: reborn
- Charles Logan: You look beautiful
- Martha Logan: What do you want?
- Charles Logan: I need you to call Anya Suvarov
- Martha Logan: What do you want me to say to her?
- Charles Logan: She has to convince Yuri to order the Russian Consulate General here in Los Angeles to surrender himself
- Martha Logan: And why would he do that?
- Charles Logan: The man's name is Anatoly Markov, his a criminal, and his working outside Russian authority
- Martha Logan: So what?
- Charles Logan: His also a mass murderer: the bomb that went off in Valencia this morning was supplied to the terrorists with Markov's help. There are other bombs out there, he knows where they are
- Martha Logan: Why doesn't the White House contact Yuri directly?
- Charles Logan: They did: it didn't work
- Martha Logan: Why not?
- Charles Logan: Martha, this is very complicated, please don't make me explain every detail
- Martha Logan: Oh, I am sorry, just do as you say without asking, you haven't changed a bit
- Charles Logan: [Shows her his GPS Monitoring Ankle Bracelet tied to his wrist] look at this, I'm still under house arrest, after this is over, I go back to prison. I'm just trying to help
- Martha Logan: "Prison?" Oh, is that you call a ten thousand square foot house with a swimming pool and tennis court?
- Charles Logan: Yuri has to be convinced that this man Markov is a traitor to his country. Anya can make our case for us. You're the only person who could reach her fast
- Martha Logan: [to Aaron] do you think I should do this?
- Aaron Pierce: Yes, I do
- Martha Logan: I need a drink, not that "knocking off" me off the wagon would be a small price to pay: saving the world
- Martha Logan: [to Charles] get Anya on the phone, I'll talk to her
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Bill, you're on speaker, I'm here with Tom Lennox: what's going on at the Russian Consulate?
- Bill Buchanan: Jack Bauer is still at large and somewhere inside. It appears now he knows Gredenko's location but isn't able to get it to us
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Alright, then what's the plan?
- Bill Buchanan: Former President Logan believes he can convince his ex-wife to put a call into Anya Suvarov. He thinks the Russian First Lady can get through to him
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Amused] that's as likely as the terrorists knocking on my door and surrendering
- Bill Buchanan: I agree, that's why we've also prepared a siege plan: a strike force will enter the Consulate and extract Markov for interrogation
- Vice President Noah Daniels: You realize an "attack" on the Russian Consulate is technically an act of war?
- Bill Buchanan: I do sir
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Frankly I'm reluctant to go to the tactical route here. We've got our hands full with these terrorists: we don't need to open another "front" with the Russians
- Bill Buchanan: Of course it's your decision sir, I understand the politics are "sticky" but my responsibility is to stop these nukes. Markov will not surrender willingly. We have to go in
- Vice President Noah Daniels: How long will it take to put together this "siege"?
- Bill Buchanan: [after Doyle whispers the time to him] about twenty minutes
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Alright, proceed as if you're going in. if Logan can be effective before then: great but don't wait on him
- Bill Buchanan: [Before hanging up] yes sir
- Aaron Pierce: [Answering her phone for her] Martha Logan's bungalow
- Charles Logan: Can I speak to Martha please?
- Aaron Pierce: Who is this?
- Charles Logan: It's Charles, Aaron please put her on: it's important
- Martha Logan: [to Aaron] who is it?
- Aaron Pierce: It's Charles, he says it's important
- Martha Logan: Important to whom?
- Aaron Pierce: Mr. Logan, she doesn't want to talk to you
- Charles Logan: I heard what she said. Look, listen to me, I'm at CTU in Los Angeles. I'm here on "government business", it has to do with the nuclear attack
- Aaron Pierce: I don't understand how Martha could possibly be of any help
- Charles Logan: [Irritated] what you understand really doesn't matter
- Aaron Pierce: I no longer have to tolerate your sarcasm
- Charles Logan: Please, this was not sarcasm: something needs to be done and I think Martha might be able to help
- Aaron Pierce: I don't know what to tell you she simply doesn't want to speak with you, she hasn't taken your calls in almost two years, I don't know why you think she would now
- Charles Logan: Tell her it's about the Suvarovs
- Aaron Pierce: [Surprised] what?
- Aaron Pierce: Martha, he wants to ask you something...
- Martha Logan: [Interrupts him, with her back facing him] I told you, I don't want to talk to him
- Aaron Pierce: It's about the Suvarovs
- Martha Logan: [Turns around, worried] what's wrong? Did something happen?
- Martha Logan: [after taking the phone from Aaron] What is it? Is Anya ok?
- Charles Logan: Anya's fine, they're both fine
- Martha Logan: Then what the hell do you want?
- Charles Logan: It's a very "delicate" matter. There's an international incident "brewing" and I think that "you" might be able to help "defuse" it
- Martha Logan: Let me get this straight: the government is desperate so they come to you to fix the world and you come to "me?" I can't be dragged into another drama with you, I won't...
- Charles Logan: [Interrupts her] you know what's going on today. You know that this is important
- Martha Logan: [Becoming upset, before dropping the phone on the floor] this is absurd
- Aaron Pierce: [Picks up the phone] you still there?
- Charles Logan: Yes, I'm still here, you know I wouldn't be "playing games" on a day like today
- Aaron Pierce: I know
- Charles Logan: You need to convince her to see me. I'm going to take a chopper there, I'll be there in a few minutes
- Aaron Pierce: [Before hanging up] alright
- Martha Logan: [Over the phone] how are you?
- Anya Suvarov: I'm fine, I've worried about you there in California
- Martha Logan: Don't worry: things are going to be fine. I know we have a lot to catch up on but I'm going to be rude and get right to the point, there's not a lot of time
- Anya Suvarov: What is it?
- Martha Logan: If you talked to Yuri recently, there's a very "tense" situation going on at the Russian Consulate in Los Angeles
- Anya Suvarov: I heard something about that but don't know the "details"
- Martha Logan: "Details" are very important
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Have a seat Mr. Ambassador
- Ambassador: Thank you
- Ambassador: [after seating down] how is President Palmer?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: The President's a tough man: his injured but we're confident he'll make a full recovery
- Ambassador: What a tragic and despicable act
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I agree, what makes it more troubling is that a citizen of your country, Hamri Al-Assad was responsible for the assassination attempt
- Ambassador: My understanding is Assad lost his life in the process but I was lead to believe he was "working" with President Palmer to promote a "peace plan"
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Well, I'm afraid that was all a ruse Mr. Ambassador. Assad's real intentions became clear when he detonated the explosive
- Ambassador: [Surprised] you have proof of this?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Conclusive, forensic evidence, at least one eye witness that saw the detonator in Assad's hands immediately before the explosion: isn't that right Tom?
- Tom Lennox: Yes Sir, that is correct
- Ambassador: Even if what you say is true, you must know Hamri Al-Assad was not working at the behest of our government. He was as much as a wanted in our country as he was in yours
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Amused] oh, not as much but that's going to change
- Ambassador: What are you referring to?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: The terrorists currently on US soil are acting on the orders of the citizens in your country who have the support of your government: you know it and I know it
- Ambassador: [Stands up] that is simply not true
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I say it is and I'm willing to "bet" you that I'm right
- Ambassador: What do you mean?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I have a carrier group within striking distance of every major city in your country waiting for me to give the order
- Ambassador: You would attack us?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Abu Fayed, a citizen of your country, enters the United States, detonates a nuclear bomb, killing thousands, next Assad attempts to assassinate the President
- Ambassador: We cannot be held responsible, you know full well that we have cooperated with you since the inception of this crisis. These threats against us are reckless and counterproductive, I had an "understanding" with your President
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Raises his voice] and now you're going to have one with me. You help us find those nukes before another goes off, or I'm going to unleash the full power of our military on your country
- Charles Logan: Martha, I'm sorry. The last "thing" I wanted to do was to upset you
- Martha Logan: You always managed to get to that last "thing". Let me ask you something Charles: does it bother you to see me with another man?
- Aaron Pierce: [after Martha rubs his arm] Martha please
- Martha Logan: We'll talk to fill the time. We never really had any "closure"
- Charles Logan: Yes, it's very difficult if you want to know the truth
- Martha Logan: But you've had a "rebirth", you should be happy for my happiness
- Charles Logan: I am happy for you
- Martha Logan: [Before standing up and walking to the kitchen] I'm sure you are
- Martha Logan: [while uncontrollably cutting fruit] Aaron has taken such good care of me, I don't know what I did to deserve such a good man. I never knew what that was like before: a really good man
- Charles Logan: If it makes you feel better to insult me, please feel free. I didn't come here to fight with you
- Martha Logan: It does make me feel better. That's exactly what I want, finally. Not having to worry to incur your wrath, the "great" Charles Logan
- Aaron Pierce: [Stands up] Martha, I want you to stop this right now, you're getting all stirred up
- Martha Logan: [Walking from kitchen back to the living room, sitting down next to Aaron] oh, God we couldn't have that could we?
- Aaron Pierce: Mr. Logan, if you would be more comfortable waiting outside, I'd understand
- Charles Logan: I appreciate that Aaron but I think I'll stay right here. Actually, I'm very grateful that you've been able to be here for Martha. You are a good man, she's very lucky to have you
- Martha Logan: [to Charles] now you're trying to irritate me aren't you?
- Martha Logan: [Before throwing fruit at him] "no Martha, no I'm not". Oh, the crap, oh the sincerity, the "enlightened soul"
- Aaron Pierce: [Trying to get her to stop throwing fruit] That's enough
- Martha Logan: Sorry, I'll be a good little girl
