[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for the “Game of Thrones” Season 7 premiere, Episode 1, “Dragonstone.”]
Ed Sheeran’s “Game of Thrones” debut arrived with all the subtlety of a teenager driving 90 miles per hour down an otherwise quiet country road. No, the pop singer wasn’t crooning his hit single during the Season 7 premiere — or “Tiny Dancer,” for that matter — but he was singing.
Before Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) even came into focus, Sheeran’s soft English tones could be heard offscreen. “He rode through the streets of the city, down from his hill on high,” Sheeran’s song began, abiding by a popular theme of his music. The group of soldiers joined him on the chorus, but quickly faded out as Arya arrived in their camp.
“It’s a pretty song,” Arya said. “I’ve never heard it before.”
“It’s a new one,” Sheeran said, inducing groans the world over.

Late last year, YouTube, legendary singer-songwriter Elton John, and John’s songwriting partner Bernie Taupin announced a contest called The Cut, which invited aspiring filmmakers to create music videos for three of John’s classic tracks. Now, the winners are in, and the new videos for “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” and “Bennie and the Jets” have been posted on John’s YouTube channel.
The terms of the contest specified that submissions for the “Rocket Man” video should be animated, the “Tiny Dancer” selection should be live action, and the “Bennie and the Jets” crop should be based around choreography. Sure enough, the three winners are all shining examples within their respective formats, and John’s famous tracks have received the artful accompaniments they deserve. I’m particularly partial to the “Rocket Man” animation, which comes from Iranian filmmaker Majid Adin:

In his first public appearance since his health scare in April, Elton John threw some major shade at what he is calling the "MTV generation." While talking to an audience at the Cannes Film Festival, the "Tiny Dancer" singer was candid with his thoughts on music that came after him. "We were before the MTV generation and I'm glad we were because we were real artists," said the eight-time Grammy winner, who was with his longtime songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin. While the "Bennie and the Jets" singer never specified anyone in particular, it was clear there are many artists that do not meet his approval. Sir Elton John has axed his forthcoming Las Vegas shows after spending time in intensive care to be treated for an "unusual bacterial infection".
The 70-year-old musician will no longer perform any of his scheduled 'The Million Dollar Piano' gigs at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in April and May after he contracted the infection during his recent tour of South America.
The 'Rocket Man' hitmaker returned home to the UK on Saturday (04.22.17) and is now "resting at home" on the advice of doctors after having the infection, which made him "violently ill", removed.

The kids are from all over: the South, the West, outside the United States, New Jersey, all crammed together in an oversized van, nearly impossible to keep straight. But they come together for bursts of music—radio songs, songs over Kmart Pa systems, or once in a while, the sounds of one of them strumming an acoustic guitar. Andrea Arnold’s American Honey doesn’t contain musical numbers, exactly; its interludes are more like the “Tiny Dancer” scene from Almost Famous crossed with a low-budget music video. Even literal background characters get in on the action, from country line-dancing in a dingy bar to suggestive moves practiced in the backyard at a young, privileged teenager’s birthday party.

Fifteen years later, that tour bus group singalong of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" still rings in our ears.
"Almost Famous" may not have been a hit when it first opened on September 15, 2000, but over the years, it's come to pluck the heartstrings and echo in the eardrums of millions of fans. It made a star of Kate Hudson, gave an early career boost to Zooey Deschanel, and won writer/director Cameron Crowe (of "Say Anything" and "Jerry Maguire" fame) his only Oscar to date.
In honor of "Almost Famous'" fifteenth anniversary, crank up Stillwater's "Fever Dog" and check out these facts you may not know about Crowe's semi-autobiographical film.

People have a pretty intimate relationship with music. The song that was playing when you had your first slow dance, broke up with that certain someone, or lost your virginity will rank higher for you than it will for some random listener. Even bad songs have a way of causing flashbacks, for better or worse. So when a movie ties a song to imagery we never imagined while making out in the back seat, it can shake up our reality a little. Say Anything permanently connected Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” with boom boxes and early-morning wake-ups, and who among us can hear Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” without regretting that they spent good money to see Sleeping with the Enemy? Here are some other songs that celluloid changed forever.

Making a good mix tape takes some skill. Making a great mix tape is a work of art. In order to make a great mix you need to listen to a wide range of artists. You also need to consider the audience. In other words, who are you making the mix for? It’s always smart to select music that you are guaranteed meets the tastes of the listener, but it also good to experiment and include some tracks that they may have never heard otherwise. Creating a message with the mix is also a plus, and I personally love to add tons of movie clips as an added bonus. There has to be a specific flow as well. Pacing is essential in creating a mood (or moods), but you don’t want any of the juxtapositions to be too jarring. And as with any form of editing, you need...

It has come to my attention that the heterosexual community is inviting itself to participate in lip-sync competitions on national television. "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" has featured spirited lip-sync battles with a number of celebrities, and they're often quite good. Quite enchanting! In fact, it's time for us to sort through Jimmy's combatants and pick out the king/queen of his lip-syncing galas. I'm exempting Jimmy since he has five times the experience of his competitors. First of all, before we begin, here is what a real lip-sync competition looks like. If you're not watching "RuPaul's Drag Race," you're really missing cutting-edge work in the lip-syncing medium: So there. Anyway: On we go to ranking the top five. 5. John Krasinski: Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," Run Dmc's "Peter Piper," and Boyz II Men's "I'll Make Love to You" Ironic that Krasinski was the one to...

Though Jacquie Lee gave Tessanne a run for her money, the pride & joy of Team Adam ended the night with a powerful performance that could secure her victory.
The Voice kicked off its two-night finale Dec. 16 with two hours of killer performances from the finalists – Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin and Jacquie Lee – as well as a few special guests! Though Will put on a good show, it quickly became a showdown between the two remaining ladies, and HollywoodLife.com is declaring Tessanne the winner.
Jacquie Lee Triumphs With ‘Back To Black’
The night began with Tessanne doing coach Adam Levine proud. Her performance of Pink‘s ”Try” was a little low-energy, but she sang it well; and for what it’s worth, it was the same song she used during the blind auditions. All in all, it was a nice reminder of just how much the three finalists have been through.
