This is the thirteenth of nineteen appearances Richard Garland makes in the series, each time playing the role of Constable Clay Horton.
Although he plays Haru, a youth born and raised on a farm in Japan, Warren Nagata, was actually a U.S. citizen, born, unfortunately, during WWII at the Rowher Japanese-American internment camp located near Rowher, Arkansas. His parents were not farmers, but medical professionals, his farther an M.D. and his mother a nurse/receptionist.
Haru demonstrates an acumen with medicine, something rather prescient for the actor playing him, i.e. Warren Nagata, who, following in his father's footsteps, would go on to a career as a physician in real life.
