For being Mr. Ort's debut feature, this was a fairly solid film. When viewing "Grain" one must remember our origins in film making. The director has a specific vision with his films. As one of the founder of "Shadowmind Productions" (www.shadowmindproductions.com), Joe has always seemed to be a fan of the quick cut, and oddly angled shot. A few of these work very well in this story, while at other times it seems a bit out of place.
Brian Houston does a wonderful job as Johnny and shows a bit of promise in the acting industry once he's gotten his feet wet. Kimberly Peterson was cast perfectly as the beautiful, and sweet Autumn. Those two seem to be the stand out characters of this film. Jim Chlopecki certainly portrays the killer well, and has a very creepy look that works very well in this.
I would say to give this a shot as the director shows great potential and does a fairly decent job in his directorial debut. Knowing him somewhat, I have his aspirations for Mr. Ort and hope that he turns to his horror roots eventually.
I give Grain an 8 out of 10.
