MISTER ROBERTS Happy Birthday, to Who? 1965

This is the 8th episode of the 1965-66 television series based on the 1955 film of the same name. The film starred Henry Fonda, James Cagney, Jack Lemmon, William Powell and Ward Bond. The series stars Roger Smith as Mr. Roberts, Francis X Slattery in the Cagney role, George Ives in the Powell bit and Steve Harmon as Ensign Pulver. Jack Lemmon won an Oscar for his role in the film. The series ran for a total of 30 episodes.

The crew is getting sick and tired of the Captain, (Francis X Slattery) showing the same film every movie night. The film is a low budget horror film that Slattery loves. The crew knows that Slattery has another film starring a bevy of bathing beauties. That is the film the crew wants to see. Every request by Mister Roberts (Roger Smith) is turned down.

Smith discovers that the Captain's birthday is coming up. He gets the crew to throw a surprise party and present him with a gold watch. Smith hopes this will get Slattery to cough up the other film.

Smith manages to get the other film from the Captain. The crew can hardly wait for movie night. Now Ensign Pulver (Steve Harmon) steps in. He does not know about Smith getting the girlie film. He steals the film case and of course the wrong film ends up getting destroyed. The crew again has to sit through the cheap horror film.

Not really much of an episode with nary a laugh to be had.
