I mentioned in my review of A Very Minty Christmas that I have a particular soft spot for Star Catcher, who plays a major role here. Sky Wishes is also very sweet, as is her determination to do something special for her friends, learning along the way that one's friends are always close by. I also really like the message, being not only that friends are always there but also that you don't need to do something extremely fancy because the party is more about friends being together rather than food and decor. The animation is bright and vibrant, the music is catchy, and the story is cute and engaging, even if it could have been just a bit longer. Overall, truly a delight.

As far as the recent My Little Pony direct to video releases go, Friends are Never Far Away is not quite as good Princess Promenade and A Very Pony Place but is one of the better ones. Some of the dialogue is corny, and I think it could have been a tad longer. However, it is well-animated, the older episodes had more dynamics in the colour schemes but the colourful vibrancy here is well-suited to the tone of the story. Speaking of the story, it is cute, engaging and means well with a good, non-preachy moral. The music is catchy and whimsical, and the characters are likable and better developed than most of the other releases. I just love Star Catcher. Overall, a delight, not perfection but nothing to scorn at in my view. 8/10 Bethany Cox
