James Arthur got the perfect voice to join him on “From the Jump.”
On Friday, the British singer-songwriter released a new version of the Bitter Sweet Love track, but this time featuring none other than Kelly Clarkson for a soulful, tear-jerking duet.
“When I heard Kelly’s vocals on this, my mind was blown. What a great honor to have someone of her caliber feature on one of my favorite songs from this body of work,” Arthur said in a press release.

Camera Obscura have announced Look to the East, Look to the West, their first new album in over 10 years, out May 3rd via Merge Records. Plus, the Scottish indie pop veterans have mapped out a 2024 North American tour and shared the lead single, “Big Love.”
Led by guitarist/vocalist Tracyanne Campbell, Camera Obscura reunited with previous producer Jari Haapalainen to record Look to the East, Look to the West. The band had gone on hiatus following the 2015 passing of founding keyboard Carey Lander, but reconnected for Belle & Sebastian’s 2019 Boaty Weekender cruise and a pair of warm-up shows in Glasgow.
Donna Maciocia joined Camera Obscura on keys and vocals for those gigs, and has since become a regular songwriting partner of Campbell’s alongside founding members Kenny McKeeve (guitar and vocals), Gavin Dunbar (bass), and Lee Thomson (drums and percussion). Pre-orders for Look to the East, Look to the West are ongoing.

Sylvan Esso appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to showcase their single “Ferris Wheel.” The indie electro band, comprised of husband and wife duo Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, gave a vibey performance of the song backed by blue and purple lights.
The track comes off the pair’s album Free Love, a nominee for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Released in the fall of 2020, Free Love marks Sylvan Esso’s third full-length LP and is the follow-up to 2017’s What Now, which was also a Grammy nominee.

Nick Stahl has been cast in Showtime’s upcoming elevated drama genre series “Let the Right One In.” Stahl joins previously announced castmates Demián Bichir, Anika Noni Rose, Grace Gummer, Madison Taylor Baez, Kevin Carroll, Ian Foreman and Jacob Buster on the series.
“Let the Right One In” is inspired by the original Swedish novel and romantic horror film of the same name, dealing with the themes of human frailty, strength and compassion. The show centers on Mark (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Baez), whose lives were changed forever when she was turned into a vampire a decade ago. Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the bloody sustenance she needs in order to survive. On November 1, the 2018 IndieWire Honors ceremony will celebrate eight filmmakers and actors for their achievement in creative independence. We’re showcasing their work with new interviews this week.
While Charlize Theron was finishing up her first week of playing Fox anchor Megyn Kelly on Jay Roach’s untitled Roger Aisles film, Kelly was abruptly fired from NBC. “It was a rough day yesterday,” Theron said in an interview. “I’m trying to close everything off and stay in my safe quarters just trying to do this film. I’m watching a ton of real footage, to get her cadence and adapt my behavior. I’m sticking with my homework.”

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that William H. Macy is entering the “Shameless” episode “Sleepwalking” as his Emmy submission for Best Comedy Actor. This installment aired January 28 and was the 12th episode of the eighth season for the Showtime show.
In this segment, Frank Gallagher (Macy) is planning a robbery of Dylan’s house when he leaves on vacation as “one more big score.” He recommends to Fiona that she should “burn out” her unwanted tenants. Frank is impressed by the work done by son Liam on getting the alarm code for Dylan’s house. But it’s a fake, so he takes as many items as possible before the police start chasing him.

Well, that was a satisfying conclusion to Shameless Season 8!
On Shameless Season 8 Episode 12, the characters all reached interesting stages in their lives.
While the hour did not have the finality that Shameless Season 7 Episode 12 had a year ago, it fantastic just the same.
We already know that Shameless has been renewed for Shameless Season 9, so we can rest assured that there will be a whole lot more twists and turns for the Gallaghers to come.
Let's start with Fiona because her storyline was comical and complex. Those people taking up residence in her apartment were horrible. They wanted to pull the long con.
Fiona was so close to giving up, and it seemed like all of the fabulous things that happened to her were going to be written off because of the vicious tenants.
I can't be the only one who burst out laughing when they asked for the dog...

New York — Once upon a time, Carrie Bradshaw was a virgin.
Hard to believe. When viewers met her 15 years ago in HBO's hit comedy "Sex and the City," Carrie, as played by Sarah Jessica Parker, was a self-styled "sexual anthropologist" who wrote a New York newspaper column based on her ongoing "research," ably assisted by her femship with three gal pals.
Now comes a new series that does for Carrie Bradshaw what "Superboy" comics did for Superman. "The Carrie Diaries" turns back the clock to the high school blossoming of Carrie as a writer, woman and passionate would-be Manhattanite.
"The Carrie Diaries" could easily have been a needless prequel to the original's six seasons, an extension of a brand that, by some appraisals, had already overstayed its welcome as two feature films in 2008 and 2010.

While we wait for his HBO series “True Detective” with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey and his 2-film adaptation of Stephen King’s “It,” Cary Fukunaga has shot and released a new gorgeous short film. Produced on high-end fashion brand Maiyet’s dime, the East Africa-set short film “Sleepwalking in the Rift” continues the Terrence Malick-esque flair that the “Sin Nombre” and “Jane Eyre” helmer displayed in his ads for Levi's. It even co-stars Haley Bennett, one of the many actors cast in Malick’s untitled film that’s set around the Austin music scene. The short film centers on Bennett and “Snabba Cash” and “Safe House” star Fares Fares (next seen in “Zero Dark Thirty”) falling in love against the lush landscape of East Africa. Apparently the short film is only one of “a 30-minute series of short vignettes featuring the Maiyet Resort 2013...

There's one person who's pretty much inescapable in movie theaters at the moment, and that's Charlize Theron. Last weekend, she was the evil queen Ravenna in "Snow White and the Huntsman," and this weekend, she's the biggest name (although not the biggest part) among the ensemble cast of "Prometheus" -- a film that she was originally pegged to play the lead in. And in a few weeks, she'll start filming on the long-gestating "Fury Road," George Miller's return to the "Mad Max" world. Between those three, she's become the queen of the blockbuster world, and with a performance in "Young Adult" that might have been her most widely acclaimed ever, Theron's as big a star as she's ever been.
But curiously, it's taken a little time for it to happen. Theron's been a familiar presence on screen for fifteen years now, since breaking through in "2 Days In The Valley" and "The Devil's Advocate,...

She’s been an assassin, a coal miner, a supermodel and an astronauts wife; portrayed Britt Ekland, transformed herself into the most misunderstood monster of modern times, been tortured by Satan and is soon to be seen as the evil queen with her murderous sights set on Snow White. I am talking about the beautiful, blonde bombshell from South Africa, Charlize Theron.
It seems a little premature to have a ‘Life in Pictures’ tribute for Theron; at just 36 she has only been on screen for 16 years since making her debut in 2 Days in the Valley. She had been in Hollywood less than a year when she won the role of Helga and her sexy performance stole the show and earned her a dominant role on the movie poster in her lingerie, ‘I was totally unprepared for that. A year earlier I had bought a one-way ticket from South Africa to...

"AnnaSophia Robb inspires audiences"

At the age of 17, AnnaSophia Robb has already worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood – like Johnny Depp, Charlize Theron, and Hillary Swank – and she’s still only finishing up her junior year in high school. But for the Colorado native, there’s more to life than simply being a Hollywood movie star.
The award-winning actress who has built her career on solid performances in films like, “The Reaping” (2007), “Sleepwalking” (2008), “Because of Winn-Dixie” (2005), and “Bridge to Terabithia” (2007), is gradually taking on more mature dramatic roles and proving she has the power to make a difference both on-screen and off.

Ailing actor Dennis Hopper has filed for divorce from his wife of 13 years. Court records reveal the "Easy Rider" star, who is battling prostate cancer, has begun proceedings to end the union, citing irreconcilable differences. Acting legend Dennis Hopper is losing his battle with prostate cancer after the deadly disease spread to his bones, according to a British report. The "Easy Rider" veteran revealed his struggle with the illness in October 2009, after he was admitted to hospital suffering from "severe flu-like symptoms."
He immediately underwent treatment at the University of Southern California, but doctors admit hopes for the 73 year old are fading after the cancer spread, according to Britain's News of the World newspaper. According to the publication, medics have informed Hopper - who has battled the disease since 2002 - that his cancer is incurable and that he may be facing his final days.
Dennis Hopper made his acting debut in 1955 when he portrayed a young epileptic in TV series called "Medic". Some other movies that the 74-year-old actor has played included "Legacy", "Land of the Dead", "Sleepwalking" and "An American Carol".

I’ve never been much impressed with Stuart Townsend as an actor, but with Battle in Seattle, his first film as writer-director-producer, I have enormous new respect for him as an artist and storyteller. Battle in Seattle, just out on DVD in Region 1, interweaves actual news footage of the explosive 1999 protests against the World Trade Organization in that city with fictional characters and fictional melodramas to tell a story that we see all too rarely these days: of the clash of corporate and political institutions with individuals striving to reduce their overarching might; of the political as personal; of conscience and passion as powers that can change the world. Battle is an uncommonly passionate film itself, which is even more remarkable as it becomes clear how evenhanded Townsend is as a filmmaker. It’s obvious that he empathizes, for the most part, with the anticorporate stance of the protesters, but he doesn’t demonize,...

Woody Harrelson has signed on to star in Ruben Fleischer’s upcoming horror comedy “Zombieland,” The Hollywood Reporter announced earlier today.
In the film written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Harrelson will play Albuquerque, one of several survivors who struggle to get by in a world dominated by zombies.
Reese and Wernick’s credits include 2003’s television series “The Joe Schmo Show.” As for Fleischer, this is his first big-screen project as a director.
Harrelson was last seen in “Sleepwalking.” He is currently filming “2012” for Roland Emmerich.
I say go Woody go! Now that you showed us how to play basketball, show us how to kill a zombie.
By the way, did you know Harrelson won an MTV Movie Award for the best kiss in “Indecent Proposal”?...

Charlize Theron has a stern message for journalists who interview her at press junkets - 'Do your homework!'
The Oscar winner admits she's often left offended by comments reporters make when they chat to her about films in press conference-style promotional interviews.
And the stunning star is tired of questions about her plainer characters in films like Monster, North Country, In The Valley of Elah and her new film Sleepwalking.
She says, "It bothers me that if you're gonna come in, especially to these junkets... and you're gonna be covering this industry, you should go and do your homework a little bit.
"I understand that there's a sense of entertainment and everybody wants the quick soundbite, but, at the same time, especially when you're dealing with material that's serious... Don't come to me and tell me that North Country was a transformation; it's dirt on my face.
"I got to a point... where somebody (said)... 'You love playing ugly people...' and I take such offence to that.
"Part of me almost wants to go, 'Y'know what, that's actually me... with no make-up, and I'm somewhat offended right now because you're basically saying I'm ugly.'"...

- From white trash impersonations to taking out the trash (man-scum), during her junket tour supporting the release of Sleepwalking it was announced that the very busy Charlize Theron will take on the role of producer/star on a possible remake of the third film in Chan-wook Park's revenge trilogy. Confirmation of the project comes today via Screen Daily who report that Cj Entertainment (producers of the original) who are looking to extend the life of some of the more original narratives that play out in the Asian crowds into the North American market. Theron and her Denver and Delilah Productions have optioned the property. The methodical, slow-paced, female empowering, revenge flick Sympathy For Lady Vengeance would carry perhaps more familiar backdrops of the U.S of A's incarceration system. The original sees a 19 year-old girl go off to prison for the murder and abduction of a child on behalf of her accomplice,

Charlize Theron went public with her unorthodox 'marriage' to partner Stuart Townsend over the weekend when she referred to the Irishman as her "husband" in a TV interview.
The Oscar winner was chatting to the hosts of U.S. film show Shootout, wearing a band on her wedding finger, when she cooed about her seven-year romance with Townsend.
Asked why she has chosen to produce movies by two first-time directors - William Maher (Sleepwalking) and Patty Jenkins (Monster) - the actress cryptically offered, "I look at my husband today and I wonder, 'What was it that you said that made me stick around for seven years...' I'm still sticking around."
Then, later in the show, while Theron was proudly talking about Townsend's directorial debut Battle In Seattle, a scene from the film was shown, with the blurb, "Theron's husband, Irish actor Stuart Townsend, wrote and directed Battle In Seattle."
Theron and Townsend declared themselves 'married' last September after exchanging rings just before Battle In Seattle's world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada.
Townsend revealed, "I didn't do a church wedding or anything, but we're married. We're husband and wife. We love each other and we want to spend our lives together."...

Oscar-winner Charlize Theron treats her acting career as one big therapy session, to help her deal with demons from her past.
The actress suffered a traumatic youth - when she was 15 years old she witnessed her mother shoot dead her abusive father in self-defence.
Fiction mimics reality in Theron's new movie Sleepwalking, in which she plays a mother forced to bring up her daughter alone after her partner abandons her.
But the 32-year-old claims she uses painful film roles to help her heal, stating the dramatic parts act like a session with a psychiatrist.
She explains, "I am incredibly lucky. I get to do a job which is very cathartic. People go to therapy because we are mechanically inclined to not want to deal with emotion or trauma. Anything that's not pretty. That's what we do.
"I get to go to therapy in my work. I go to some very dark places, and I think it's healthy to do that."...

Movie tough guy Dennis Hopper had no problems pretending to beat child actress Anna-sophia Robb in new movie Sleepwalking - because her character's upbringing was just like his.
Robb's character is severely punished for not doing her farm chores correctly in the film, and, although Hopper doesn't condone beating kids, he received the same treatment as a child growing up on a Kansas farm.
He explains, "When I did something I got punished, man. It wasn't a spanking; I'd say more like a whipping.
"That's just the way people were treated in those days and I'd say it's only the last 40 or 50 years that we've been so concerned about disciplining our children, that it was wrong to spank them or wrong to hit them.
"That's just the way it was in those days, especially if you were out on a farm like that. You had to keep discipline and your kids were born to work."...

This week, our cup runneth over with a "Karate Kid" knockoff, a shot-for-shot remake and more documentaries than Michael Moore can shake an overpriced hot dog at.
"Blind Mountain"
The recipient of plenty of acclaim at last year's Cannes Film Festival, director Li Yang has a casual yet immediate style that's been touted as something of a Chinese answer to Ken Loach. "Blind Mountain" offers an uncomfortable but powerful indictment of China's one child policy and the sex trade that has flourished under it. The film follows the desperate struggle of a young woman who accepts a job in a remote mountain village, only to discover that she has unwittingly been sold into marriage as a slave.
Opens in New York.

Overture Films has signed an interim agreement with the WGA to allow striking writers to work for the company.
The deal follows a range of pacts between the WGA and such non-struck film companies as United Artists and the Weinstein Co. According to those familiar with the Overture deal, it includes similar provisions to those featured in other agreements.
Overture launched its inaugural slate this month with the release of Callie Khouri's Mad Money and will release several films in the coming months, including The Visitor and Sleep Walking.
It also expects to enter production on a number of projects soon as it builds up its slate, and the deal allows writers to work unfettered for the Liberty Media studio.
"We've said before that if we could find an accommodation with the WGA, we would sign an agreement," Overture CEO Chris McGurk said. "The strike is good for no one, and we want to go back to work with the writers."...

PARK CITY -- Oscar-winner Charlize Theron performs double duty as both actress and producer on Sleepwalking, which had its premiere at Sundance before opening in March. Actually, her own role is just a supporting turn, but she brings force and integrity to her acting and also to her work behind the camera. Although the story is too grim to attract a large audience, all the performances deserve accolades.
Theron, who seems equally comfortable inhabiting glamorous roles in Hollywood ventures like The Italian Job and grungier types in her indie films, plays Joleen Reedy, an irresponsible single mother who has had a lot of bad luck with men. After her latest boyfriend is arrested, she takes her daughter, Tara (AnnaSophia Robb), and moves in with her brother, James (Nick Stahl). She soon meets another man and runs off with him, leaving James to look after Tara. James, a good-hearted but simple man, wants to give his niece a home, though he is ill-equipped for the task. Eventually they end up with his own abusive father (Dennis Hopper), the source of all the family's problems.
The script by Zac Stanford (The Chumscrubber) takes an unblinking look at the travails of working-class people and hopelessly damaged families. While there are moments of humor provided by supporting players like Woody Harrelson (as James' co-worker), most of the movie is pretty bleak. Yet the fine acting keeps us hypnotized. As she showed in Monster, Theron is perfectly willing to dispense with vanity and offer a hard-edged portrayal of a selfish, reckless woman.
Stahl has often been the best thing in very mediocre movies. In this case, he has one of his stronger roles, and he finds the pathos and decency in a deeply wounded man. Hopper is suitably monstrous as the brutish paterfamilias.
The movie's real find is young Robb, who has shown charm in such movies as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and Bridge to Terabithia, and who reaches a whole new level of maturity in Sleepwalking. Growing up in a messy family situation, Tara has had to develop a wisdom way beyond her years. Robb makes her credibly tough while retaining tinges of heartbreaking vulnerability. This is a breakthrough performance that should do wonders for her career.
First-time director William Maher brings a strong sense of authenticity to the film. Working on a low budget with veteran cinematographer Juan Ruiz-Anchia, Maher makes the most of the desolate Western locations. (The film actually was shot in Saskatchewan, doubling for California and Utah.) The film winds predictably toward its melancholy conclusion, but there is a glimmer of hope for at least a couple of the characters. Even if the movie takes you to some dark places you would rather not visit, at least you will remember the actors who navigate the tortured journey.

NEW YORK -- Overture president Chris McGurk allows himself a moment of contemplation when asked about the spate of movies his company is about to release.
"When you think about it, a year ago there were four people in a small office in Century City and no movies," he said. "We were starting with great assets, but we didn't have much."
Cut to a year later, when the Liberty Media theatrical division has a diverse slate, about 70 employees and a plan to embrace the first half of 2008.
That plan begins Friday, when Overture unspools the Callie Khouri-directed Mad Money, one of the more commercial movies on its slate. It will be the first test of what is a unique startup model that fuses John Malone's capital, the Liberty distribution platforms and the savvy of UA veterans McGurk and Danny Rosett.
If the past few months have been the quiet buildup period, the next few will be the noisy phase that will yield early verdicts on the Overture experiment. Between now and March, the company will release three movies representing different genres.
Those releases include more serious fare like Tom McCarthy's middle-age drama The Visitor and the Charlize Theron drama Sleepwalking as well as Money, a comedy that stars Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes.

PARK CITY -- Overture Films has made its first acquisition, picking up all U.S. rights to producer-star Charlize Theron's drama Ferris Wheel for about $4 million.
Although Wheel was not shown at the Sundance Film Festival, Overture, the new indie production-distribution company, completed the deal in Park City during the fest. The film was produced by Denver and Delilah Films, Theron's production outfit, and Film Engine.
Directed by Bill Maher in his helming debut, Wheel stars Theron as a poor mother who gets caught up with the wrong crowd and abandons her young daughter (AnnaSophia Robb). She leaves the girl with her brother (Nick Stahl), and the girl develops a special bond with her uncle as they deal with the situation. Dennis Hopper plays the father of Theron's character, and Woody Harrelson plays a member of her circle of troubled friends.
Overture chief operating officer Danny Rosett said Overture execs, including CEO Chris McGurk, viewed about 45 minutes of the unfinished film before making their decision.
