The first poster we've seen for the Power Rangers film didn't remotely feel like anything Power Rangers-related, except for the fact it said Power Rangers on it. Now we have some character posters that at least show off our main heroes from the film. In order of appearance, we have Rj Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Becky G as the... Read More...

With just over a month to go until Game Of Thrones season four, HBO has released a snazzy set of character posters...
If monochromatic and moody images of the Game Of Thrones cast are your thing, then boy, have we a treat in store for you. HBO's publicity machine (a cross between eighties kids' manufacturing giant Bertha and Howl's Moving Castle that shoots teaser promos out of its chimney every half an hour) has released eighteen black and white character posters to showcase the serious faces of the season four cast.
In order of appearance below, we have: Arya, Bran and Sansa Stark, Jon Snow, Ygritte, Tormund Giantsbane, Brienne, Jaime, Cersei, Tyrion, Tywin, Joffrey, Margaery, Littlefinger, The Hound, Prince Oberyn, Dany and Ser Jorah. Accompanying them all is the High Valyrian saying 'Valar Morghulis', which translates as the rather ominous 'All men must die'.

Women in Film: Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, and dozens of movie actresses in curious morphing montage A few dozen top international female movie stars, most of them Hollywood celebrities, are seen in the Women in Film morphing montage below created by Philip Scott Johnson. The faces belong to actresses from the 1910s to the early 21st century. (Image: The ‘Daughter’ of Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner — who sort of looks like a cross between Eleanor Parker and Cyd Charisse as well — in the Women in Film morphing montage.) Just as interesting as trying to identify each of the famous faces is stopping the video while the morphing is going on, so you get Daughter of Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner, or Daughter of Audrey Hepburn and Dorothy Dandridge, or Daughter of Michelle Pfeiffer and Sigourney Weaver. Some of those Daughters are quite pretty; others look like they’ve just landed on this planet.

From the lobby scene in The Matrix to Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader squaring off in The Empire Strikes Back, the most effective movie fight scenes generally rely on objects designed for inflicting harm.
Every once in a while though, a gun runs out of bullets, a knife gets kicked out of reach, or a screenwriter becomes bored. The result is an impractical, yet effective use of a common object as a weapon.
"Did he really just beat that man to death with a dildo?" He sure did -- and that's not even the weirdest improvised weapon in our supercut above. Enjoy!
In order of appearance:
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) - Dildo
Samson and Delilah (1949) - A donkey's jawbone
The Boondock Saints (1999) - Toilet
Deadly Friend (1986) - Basketball
Nacho Libre (2006) - Corn
Single White Female (1992) - Stiletto
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) - Television
Sleeper (1973) - Bleu cheese

Last month, Yankee Candle launched a limited edition line of sweaty, gruff, hyper-masculine "Man Candles," finally allowing men to indulge in their wildest scent-related fantasies without the mockery that comes with purchasing Autumn Wreath.
With scents like "Riding Mower," "2x4," "First Down" and of course the breakout "Man Town," nobody can accuse Yankee Candle of not giving everything they've got to their run at the male market.
But what do these candles really smell like? Our imagination is not nearly vivid enough to estimate what testosterone smells like as a wax candle, so we had to find out first-hand. We took to Twitter to request some samples and immediately received a response and a package from Yankee Candle.
Our conclusion? Opinions were mixed, but in short, "Man Candles" definitely live up to their name.
Big thanks to all the HuffPost and AOL editors who agreed to appear in this video...

The video on this page was an undercover project, I learn, at Ebertfest 2012. Most of my Far-Flung Correspondents and Demanders were there in person, and those who couldn't be contributed their voices via audio files. The idea originated with Kevin B. Lee, who did the audiotaping and editing. It was the inspiration of Michael Mirasol to use the foreign languages of those who spoke one. The video essay is the first in a series about critics by Kevin B. Lee, who is editor of the Press Play video essays at Indiewire.com--which he and Matt Zoller Seitz have built into the best video essay source on the web. Kevin was a special correspondent for our TV show, "Ebert Presents at the Movies." He had the idea of beginning with my list of the Greatest Films of All Time for the 1982 Sight & Sound poll. This was rather inspired, because that first list is my "purest,...

Tonight's How I Met Your Mother explored one of the great conundrums of relationships: Is there such a thing a sleep cheating? Can one be held accountable by one's significant other for subconscious coitus with another person?
After the startling revelation that it was Ranjit who was the object of the rapid thigh movement behind Lily's rapid eye movement, Marshall had no choice but to accept that it was his wife's turn to ride the Crazy Go Round. I liked the common thread of good fathers Marshall found, linking the men in Lily's dreams together, even if it was not the case.
While Lily's pregnancy-induced promiscuity was one score Marshall could not challenge, Ted and Barney's Game of Life debate was itself legendary and worthy of being the subject of "Now We're Even." Each feat of awesomeness and the arbitrary point amount awarded to such was more and more hilarious...

I met Arthur Cullipher in Louisville, Kentucky at the Fright Night Film Fest this summer and have made a friend for life. One of the funniest and nicest guys you'd ever want to meet and he is talented too! He and his Clockwerk Pictures team have created one of the darkest and disturbing short films I've ever witnessed with 'Come', think Lovecraft and R-rated Twilight Zone episode mixed with a little Outer Limits, all on acid and then stuck in a blender, I haven't been lucky enough to witness more from him but I'm sure that day is coming. Arthur is a part of Clockwerk Pictures and even the Dark Carnival Film Fest. He's an FX artist, he writes, directs, produces, even makes action figures and can make you laugh in a second! Check out my latest "Versus" with Arthur Cullipher as he's invited all of us for...

The abolition of the Film Council has provoked another round of laments for UK cinema. But across the Channel there is a golden age for serious movies – and a cohesive industry with lessons for Britain's Hollywood-obsessed producers
When I walked out of the cinema the other evening after watching a very great actress at the top of her form – Kristin Scott Thomas in Leaving (Partir) – I realised that subtitles were now the norm for me. Of the 10 films I have paid to see over the last year, eight were French.
I'm aware of big releases like Inception and the accompanying ballyhoo over Tom Cruise's latest empty sensation, but it's a while since I have bought a ticket to see an American film. I'm hooked on the French, in awe of their style and the effortless class of their filmmaking.

On Thursday, I posted a decent 2009 movie tribute edited by Kees van Dijkhuizen, and wondered where Matt Shapiro’s annual video was this year. It’s become a sort of tradition to watch his take, so luckily just hours later his video was online. Shapiro’s “2009: The Cinescape” is a 4-minute montage of moments from 2009 films set to Radiohead’s “Exit Music (For a Film).” I would have expected “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire, but this will do just fine.
The clip is definitely worth the watch, as are his “Cinescape” videos for previous years in case you missed them. (2008, 2007, and 2006) Check out the latest below, and if you’re wondering “what’s that from?” at any point, the list of movies is printed underneath.

For a couple years, we've been featuring Matthew Shapiro's yearly film video montages (you can watch the videos which highlight previous years here: 2008, 2007, and 2006. His latest video, 2009: The Cinescape has been released just in time for the new year. This year Shapiro editted the video to Radiohead's Exit Music (For A Film), which is a slower and more downbeat choice than usual (but maybe it fits this year of recession?). Watch the video now, embedded after the jump. Maggie Cheung alert!
She walked the Taiwanese red carpet today in this white number to your left. She was presenting Best Picture at the Golden Horse Awards. The Golden Horse is Taiwanese in origin but it's for Chinese language films regardless of country of origin so it's very competitive now. Warlords and Lust, Caution, which both had international releases, were recent winners of Best Picture.
This year, Maggie handed the trophy to No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti which, if we ever see it in the States, might be called I Can't Live Without You or Not Without You. That's Taiwan's submission for this year's Foreign Language Film Oscar race. The film is from actor/director Leon Dai and it's about a poor man who loses his daughter once the government learns of their illegal living conditions.
