This is the first time we've seen Elizabeth and Roger together since the height of the Jason McGuire story and while both are currently on the back burner (particularly the barely on Louis Edmunds), they must be a major part of the story involving David's fear of Barnabas, certainly not unfounded. Barnabas and Julia discuss David while Barnabas recovers from an injection (a story yet to really be dealt with) and Barnabas and decides of a clever way to discredit him. So David is spared being killed while Barnabas plots in a way that promises to be highly amusing.
The very strict Roger goes from wanting to spank David to trying sensitively to understand him, and it's a chance to see the usually gruff and droll Roger be a loving father, although he uses the phrase I care about you over I love you. Don't be drinking anything as this episode comes to a conclusion. Your TV might just end up being soaked.
