The ghost of Bela Lugosi is looming over Collinwood.

Warning: Spoilers
It's very apparent that the spirit of one of the greatest horror stars ever to work in motion pictures had an influence over at least the writers and the set directors. After a few very weak episodes, the show is getting back on track and the characters of Jason McGuire and Willy Loomis are finally beginning to make an impact. We finally get to see a portrait of Barnabas collins, so over the past 9 months of the show, we have to presume that it's been sitting there but the camera has just not pointed to it. Lugosi created two legendary characters with Count Dracula and Igor, and when you see the picture of Barnabas, the resemblance to Lugosi is striking with the dark hair, pale skin and creepy jewelry.

Tired of Willie's presence and the uncomfortable feeling that he gives Elizabeth, she confronts Jason and orders him to get Willie out of there, threatening to call the police. It doesn't matter that he has something over her, and she would rather go to jail then see her daughter and Victoria hurt, especially learning that Carolyn had to pull a gun on Willie. Her motherly instincts is far more protective of them than for concern for herself.

Finally we get a return to the David of old as he shows Willie the picture of Barnabas, and it truly is eerie as the camera focuses on Barnabas as it suddenly changes looks in the eyes. That makes this the first truly excellent episode in a long time because it's giving signs of promise as to where the story is going. It's also obvious that Jason does have some sort of caring feeling for Elizabeth outside of his blackmail, and that will help increase interest in the story as that part of it unfolds.

Spooky

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 205 is another solid enough one, once more focused around Willie and the enmity and fear he brings to the household. That in itself is highly engaging, but what makes this episode is the final sequence involving the spooky portrait of Barnabas - the first we see of the series' most memorable and important character.
