"I'll Put a Hex on Him"
At Collinwood, Roger (Louis Edmonds) takes a phone call from Sam. They arrange to meet, by chance, at the Blue Whale. On her way to the family library, Vicki (Alexandra Moltke) agrees to accompany Roger. When the camera follows Roger from the foyer to the drawing room, you get a rare look at the overhead set lights. Some filmed footage introduces the Blue Whale scene, where we find "extra" customers Tom Mixon, Diann Redford and Richard Cook. As always, Bob O'Connell tends bar. At a table, Sam (David Ford) and Maggie (Kathryn Leigh Scott) are having drinks, happy about the coroner's report...
Joe (Joel Crothers) enters, again stood up by "Caroline" (according to Sam). Calling Joe, "The most alone man I've ever seen," Maggie has him join her table. Sam notices Maggie is romantically attracted to Joe. He picks up the vibrations and asks Maggie to dance, beginning a classic couple. Familiar instrumental standards are played for the Blue Whale crowd, rather than the songs Bob Cobert composed for the tavern. Vicki and Roger arrive. Nonchalantly checking the teleprompter, Roger and Sam discuss current events. Sam threatens Roger, who insults both Maggie and Joe. It appears a fight may break out...
