ABC’s Dr. Odyssey has added another actor to its ensemble in Who Is Erin Carter? star Sean Teale.
Teale will star opposite Joshua Jackson, Don Johnson and Phillipa Soo in the series, which comes from mega-producer Ryan Murphy and co-creators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. As has been the case with other casting, details about Teale’s role are being kept quiet.
Sources described Dr. Odyssey as a medical show set on a cruise ship, with elements of House and Murphy’s 2000s FX drama Nip/Tuck. Jackson will be playing the doctor in the title.
Teale starred with Evin Ahmad in Who Is Erin Carter?, a Netflix limited series that had a brief breakout run in summer 2023. He’ll next be seen in Netflix’s feature film Mother of the Bride with Brooke Shields, Benjamin Bratt and Miranda Cosgrove. Teale’s other credits include Reign, Skins and Mr. Selfridge.

In “Back to Black,” Jack O’Connell’s Blake Fielder-Civil comes into the life of Amy Winehouse — played by an exceptional Marisa Abela — with seductive bravado, sweeping the singer off her feet on their first meeting in a London pub thanks to, among other things, a lip-synced rendition of the Shangri-La’s “Leader of the Pack”.
As the divisive biopic, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and released in the U.K. by StudioCanal this Friday (and in the U.S. by Focus Features on May 17), agonizingly portrays, the smitten pair quickly descend into violent self-destruction — a “toxic co-dependency” as Fielder-Civil later describes it in the film — fueled by alcoholism and drug abuse.
Many may question the ethics of picking at a tragic story that was heavily chronicled and sensationalized by the media in real-time during Winehouse’s final years. But for anyone who’s been tracking O’Connell’s career, the opportunity to...

Dev Patel is looking back at some of the memorable and “insane” moments from Skins, the show that gave him his start.
The Oscar-nominated actor, who played Anwar in the first two seasons of the racy teen drama series’ U.K. version from 2007 to 2008, was shown a throwback photo of himself at a party scene with his fellow castmembers during a recent interview with NME.
The picture quickly sparked some vivid memories for the Monkey Man star and director, saying he remembers some “really insane” Skins parties where he claimed teens were “drugged off their faces”.
“I’m wearing a corset with the Rocawear belt, and basically my arse is hanging out,” Patel said of the photo. “That was a crazy day.
He continued, “They did these commercials where they’d rent out these mansions of whatever and then just a bunch of kids, our age and older, would come...

Ever since it was announced in 2018, Monkey Man had a difficult journey to its release. Dev Patel’s directorial debut received setbacks due to covid restrictions, budgetary issues, and a broken hand of the writer/director/star (this last issue resulted in a change of choreography to ensure Patel could deliver fight scenes one-handed.)
Netflix acquired the film for worldwide distribution, a move which would have buried the film courtesy of a dreadful algorithm, yet that scenario was avoided courtesy of filmmaker Jordan Peele. Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut Monkey Man leads the new films at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, starting in 592 cinemas through Universal.
Directed, produced, from a story by and starring Patel, Monkey Man follows an anonymous young man who unleashes a campaign of violence against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother, and continue to systematically victimise the poor and powerless.
Filmed in early 2021, Netflix originally bought worldwide rights to Monkey Man. After Jordan Peele boarded the title as producer through his Monkeypaw Productions, Universal acquired it from Netflix earlier this year. It debuted at SXSW last month.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct – have been developing a new project in secret. Coogler has written the script for this project, which is being described as both a genre picture and a period piece that Coogler will be directing and Jordan is attached to star in. The project is set up at Warner Bros., is expected to have a budget of around $90 million, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 7, 2025. We still don’t know exactly what this movie is going to be about… but Deadline reports that Jack O’Connell is in talks to play the villain in it.

Before he became a professional actor, Dev Patel was a competitive martial artist. Really. The British-born son of Indian immigrants took up Taekwondo at the age of 10 in a neighborhood dojo where he’d go on to earn a black belt. Furthermore, only three years prior to his breakout on the TV series Skins, young Patel won a bronze medal at the Action International Martial Arts World Championships in Dublin. It was a defining moment in his youth. It was also something—he concedes on the other side of completing his first action film, the ferocious Monkey Man—which has always been in the back of his mind.
“I learned so much about how to channel my energy and how to find discipline, and it was amazing,” Patel tells us after the film’s rapturous world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. “So [I knew] if I ever had the opportunity to...

Those teen drama TV series are not to be taken lightly. Because they could produce the most promising Oscar-nominated or winning actors. For example, consider Skins, created by Jamie Brittain and Bryan Elsley.
Every episode usually centers on a specific character or group of characters and the challenges they encounter in their daily lives. Themes of mental illness, dysfunctional families, bullying, and s*icide were also covered in greater detail. Not only did Skins receive positive reviews and good box office results, but it also gained a cult following. Of course, this is due to the stellar cast.
Dev Patel in Skins
Jordan Peele also agreed on this. Unbelievably, he has not watched Skins but he still gives the popular TV series credit for “producing” two of the best actors in contemporary film history—Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya.

Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man (2024), where he also boasts credits as co-writer, producer, and starring talent, earned him a standing ovation during its premiere at SXSW. The laudation directed at the 33-year-old star is well-deserved even beyond the narrative offered by the premise, which has frequently been described as “John Wick in Mumbai.”

What gives the warn reception more meaning is understanding the journey that Patel took in seeing through the film’s production, which was anything but a walk in the park. The pandemic proved obstructive, and the team constantly ran into hurdles. Worst of all, though, were the injuries sustained by the young actor before and during the movie-making process.
Talking about it after the screening in a Q&a, Patel recalled how he broke his foot and hand, tore his shoulder, and got an eye infection—all through one film!

A rare flagship indie producer left on the French market, Bruno Nahon’s Paris-based company Unité is preparing to conquer international audiences with “Rematch,” a period psychological thriller chronicling the historical battle between world chess champion Garry Kasparov, and Ibm’s supercomputer Deep Blue in 1997.
The sprawling show, directed by Yan England (“The Red Band Society”) and co-created with Nahon and André Gulluni (“Sam”), was commissioned by Arte in France and has already been sold by Federation Studios to major outlets around the world, including HBO Europe for Spain, Portugal, the Nordics, Iceland, Baltics, Central Europe, Greece and the Netherlands. Disney+ has bought first-window rights for the U.K. and will air the show in France after the Arte broadcast.
Nahon, who created Unité a decade ago, has been making bold shows and movies exploring social, religious and political aspects of societies, and has often captured the zeitgeist in the process.

As an over-40 on the Gen X/Millennial cusp, modern teenagers unsettle me. On screen. On buses. On the street with their midriff out and no coat on. I feel a powerful urge both to protect them and for them to stay 100 metres away from me at all times. Watching modern teen TV as a non-teen feels suspect, like eating Farleys Rusks with a full set of adult teeth.
Watching BBC Three comedy-drama Boarders then, which is set at the sixth form of a swanky English private school, I was primed to feel like a chaperone at a prom – unwelcome, uncomfortable and wishing to God there was a bar. What I actually felt was joy.
Created by Timewasters’ Daniel Lawrence Taylor and inspired by a news article about an elite, majority-white UK boarding school offering scholarship places to clever young Black students from underprivileged backgrounds, Boarders is shrewd, funny and well-cast.

Did you know Dev Patel has had a black belt since he was 16 years old? You probably will now after watching the first trailer for Monkey Man, a new gritty action spectacle which also happens to mark The Green Knight star’s directorial debut.
Indeed, the British born actor has enjoyed a respected career since his teenage years, beginning with the one-two punch of the TV series Skins in 2007 and the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire the year afterward. Both were impressive debuts that helped paved the way to an eclectic career which has included roles in movies like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Hotel Mumbai, The Personal History of David Copperfield, and Lion, the last of which earned Patel an Oscar nomination.
Yet it is intriguing to see Patel step behind the camera for the first time and reveal some of the type of movies that interest him—and others. After all,...

U.K. producers Evan Leighton-Davis and Ben Bond have launched a new financing fund, Heatseeker Media, a rolling finance facility to provide funding for independent film and TV producers.
Rare for these sorts of indie financing facilities, the London-based fund will provide development funding for producers, initially in the $100,000 to $1 million range for individual projects. Sooner or later, if you're a big-name actor with dreams of even bigger ambitions, it's likely that you'll eventually try your hand at stepping behind the other side of the camera for a change. In what feels like no time at all, Daniel Kaluuya has built up a strong and wide-ranging body of work under his belt, breaking out with 2017's "Get Out" (although real ones know him from the British dramedy TV series "Skins") and following that up with a trip to blockbuster land in "Black Panther," reuniting with director Jordan Peele in last year's "Nope," and most recently voicing fan-favorite superhero Hobie Brown (aka Spider-Punk) in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." But it seems that Peele's specific career arc has rubbed off on Kaluuya a bit, since he's now become the latest performer-turned-director with the impending release of his directorial debut.

Step into an eerily familiar, dystopian London in the first trailer for Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya’s The Kitchen.
Daniel Kaluuya is just the latest actor to step behind the camera and try their hand at directing. The Oscar winner has teamed up with Kibwe Tavares to bring to life a dystopian vision of London and we have it on very good authority that the film is pretty special.
Take a look at the very first The Kitchen trailer.
The film is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on 12 January for a limited run before hitting Netflix 19 January, so thankfully, we’ll only have to wait about a month before watching The Kitchen. It’s a completely original story, coming from a pair of first time directors and that is something to get excited about.
Here’s the official synopsis: “In a dystopian London, the gap between rich and poor...

The Man of Steel has found his arch-nemesis. Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor in the upcoming James Gunn film “Superman: Legacy,” according to a report from Deadline.
IndieWire has reached out to representatives of Warner Bros. for comment.
According to Deadline, the casting process for Luthor began after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended on November 9, with casting on pause since the strike began in July. However, Hoult was in the mix for “Superman: Legacy” beforehand; the actor previously auditioned for the lead role of Clark Kent during early screen tests for the film. Hoult was one of three actors to make the final round of tests along with Tom Brittney and David Corenswet, who was ultimately cast as the lead this past June, along with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” lead Rachel Brosnahan as Superman’s love interest Lois Lane.

Lol Tolhurst, Budgie, and Jacknife Lee have shared their debut album as a trio, Los Angeles.
A post-punk supergroup of sorts, drummers Tolhurst (formerly of The Cure) and Budgie (formerly of Siouxsie and the Banshees) teamed up with producer Lee for the project, which also features a who’s-who list of collaborators including U2’s The Edge, LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, more.
And though the band admittedly “stole” some of the music on Los Angeles from their musical heroes and their own back catalogs, they made sure to nod to their punk descendants, too: “We asked Mark Bowen from Idles to put some guitar on [‘Uh Oh’] and what we got was sonic destruction design courtesy of the dentist,” Tolhurst says in a press release, while Budgie says the tune draws from The Banshees’ own “Happy House.”

Exclusive: The BFI London Film Festival closes Sunday with the world premiere of The Kitchen, a movie set in a dystopian London where an impoverished community is forced to fend for themselves in ramshackle apartment blocks. It marks the feature directorial debut of Oscar- winning actor Daniel Kaluuya and architect-turned-filmmaker Kibwe Tavares.
It’s a film that Kaluuya, Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Emmerson (Calm With Horses), The Kitchen’s producer, have spent the best part of a decade bringing to the screen.
This column’s about how three friends came together to develop a tiny idea that over the years has evolved into tale about a London that’s split in half — those who have and those who don’t.
However, through their eyes, it’s a London that, ultimately, offers a sense of humanity and hope.

Euphoria executive producer Ron Leshem flew into Spain this week and recalled how Hollywood had initially turned down the HBO hit over concerns about teenage lead characters.
In a panel at Madrid’s Iberseries & Platino Industria (Ipi) today focused on content for Gen Z, Leshem said both Euphoria and the Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things hit the same roadblock, as networks initially fretted over the idea of teenagers leading a series that wasn’t specifically a teen drama.
“Everyone told us we needed to be more like Skins,” he said, referencing the influential British drama from Channel 4 that set Nicholas Hoult, Kaya Scodelario, Dev Patel, Joe Dempsie and Hannah Murray on the road to stardom.
“We didn’t want to do Skins. We wanted to stand out and do something different,” said Leshem, who eventually sold Euphoria to HBO alongside co-creator Sam Levinson. “Artistically, we wanted to do Trainspotting meets...

The opening track on "Tender," Zzzahara's sophomore solo album, feels like the doo-wop-influenced surf pop of the '50s and '60s. Then two minutes in, "Dust" delivers the album's first big moment, a serrated guitar solo that rips through the song's old-old-days motif and harkens to the lick that powers the grabby 1974 Wings hit "Let Me Roll It."
It's unexpected, but it's not surprising for fans of the Angeleno's first effort, 2022's "Liminal Spaces." They've again pulled distinct threads from disparate brands of rock and pop from across generations and laced them together for a sparkly, rough-edged, varied collection.
"I would describe the sound of Zzzahara as big and melodic," the singer, guitarist, and songwriter told Sound of Life in February. "I think the sound sort of morphed naturally into a more mature sound with lots of thought behind it. Honestly, it's like a medley of different rock genres.

Where are the Skins cast now? Short answer: absolutely everywhere.
While the show did earn critical acclaim as well as a cult following over the course of its seven series, when this scrappy teen comedy drama launched on E4 in 2007 few could have predicted just how many household names it would spawn.
Among Skins’ impressive alumni are actors who went on to win Oscars and Baftas, play lead roles in hit movies like Slumdog Millionaire and Get Out, not to mention star in hit shows like Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders.
Let’s take a look at some of the Skins cast’s best roles:
Joe Dempsie – Game of Thrones

It was here he was spotted and subsequently cast in Shane Meadows‘ BAFTA winning crime-drama, This Is England. Before long, O’Connell had proven himself as a massive talent in film and TV. [This story contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.]
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star Daniel Kaluuya was, quite literally, born to play Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk. The Oscar winner and his anti-establishment Spider-Man character are both from Camden Town, a borough in North West London, and so Kaluuya’s voice performance in Sony’s smash hit took inspiration from the cast of characters he grew up around in the ‘90s and early 2000s.
Hobie was first introduced as a potential threat to Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), given that he had some form of an intimate relationship with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), but instead of another clichéd love triangle story, Hobie turned out to be the ultimate hero of Across the Spider-Verse. He not only helped Miles Morales escape the clutches of Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac), but he also left his portal watch for Gwen to assemble a team that will hopefully rescue Miles from Earth-42 in 2024’s Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Less an instructional film than a sloppy-drunk after school special about a girls trip gone wrong, Molly Manning Walker’s “How to Have Sex” folds a nuanced look at the pressures and permissiveness of teenage friendships inside a frustratingly didactic story about the vagaries of consent. Needless to say, that’s not the movie Walker’s three 16-year-old heroines were hoping to be in when they arrived on the Greek island of Malia for the kind of boot-and-rally bacchanalia that British kids have turned into a rite of passage. They signed up for “Spring Breakers,” only to find themselves stranded in something closer to an episode of “Skins.”
It’s not their fault. Best friends Tara, Em, and Skye have no way of knowing they’ve walked into a trap. They can’t hear the muted soundscape that Walker creates for them as they arrive on their first beach; they...

HanWay Films has boarded The One, an erotic thriller starring Melissa Barrera and Nicholas Hoult and will launch sales at the Cannes Film Festival.
The project comes from writer-director team Kevin Armento and Jaki Bradley and is billed as “a nightmarish horror about the romantic and psychological warfare waged by our beloved popular entertainment — and also begs the question… are we, the viewers, complicit?”
Barrera, who’s coming off box office horror hit Scream VI, leads the cast opposite the Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award-nominated Hoult. Barrera plays Taylor, whose last-ditch effort to find love by becoming a contestant on a reality dating show begins to feel terrifyingly real as she becomes a finalist. Amidst an opulent beachfront setting, fairy-tale dates and champagne, “pursuit turns into obsession and rivalry turns into treachery as reality itself blurs.”
HanWay Films is handling worldwide sales, with WME Independent and UTA co-repping the film for North America.

I may be ready to give up on Nic Cage after this movie if I’m honest. Actually, that may be a tad harsh because I do feel like he is doing his best with the half-baked mindless script he was given. Cage as Dracula alone was the selling point of Renfield and as I would come to find out, Cage is not even in the damn film all that much!
I realise that I’m not exactly burying the lead here in terms of how I felt about Renfield but don’t worry because it’s not all bad. Let’s jump into it….
Renfield is not exactly reinventing the wheel here in as much as the story revolves around...

Grief is by no means a universally relatable subject; we may all encounter it, but the manner in which we process it very rarely translates directly to somebody else’s personal experiences. This is something filmmaker Christophe Honoré has an innate awareness of, with his latest film Winter Boy attempting to address his own formative experience of grief without simply resorting to a semi-autobiographical work. So he doesn’t leave these still-raw emotions confined within a period setting, rendering that adolescent pain a distant memory. He’s attempting to address them via a contemporary coming-of-age tale––one that may share resemblances to his own youth but refuses to simply revisit it.
It’s an intriguing approach for the writer-director to take, and one that didn’t entirely work. Though many moments are keenly felt, especially whenever the sibling relationship takes center stage, there are just as many that lack an...
