In this homage to I Love Lucy's often copied candy factory scene, Drake and Josh work at a fish company called Ball and Vance Fish Corp, (the last names of I Love Lucy stars Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance). Just like the candies in the candy factory, Drake and Josh work with sushi on a conveyor belt, with the same result as Lucy and Ethel working on candy. (The boys even find their jobs through a temp agency, just like Lucy and Ethel did.) Additionally, the episode name itself, "I Love Sushi," is a sound-similar reference to "I Love Lucy." As a final touch, an outtake of the sushi scene is shown in black and white through a heart-shaped cutout with the theme music played by a nightclub band.
A clip from this episode is seen in an episode of Victorious, another Schneider-produced show.
