Katherine Albert is to be credited for writing this classic of classics episode, perhaps one of her very best. In all, she wrote 12 stories. It also borders on the scary side... (butterflies in the stomach!), one episode all of us kids intently watched back in the day. Inviting your teacher to dinner! OMG.
Of course, we all knew Beave's favorite teacher was Miss Landers (Sue Randall). With a bit of reminiscing from Ward, who in fact invited one of his great teachers to his house when he was a boy --Beave extends a heartfelt invitation to her. She accepts. Now what!
Beave naturally tells the "secret" to Larry, which is no secret when he spills the beans to Gilbert and Whitey. Some memorable scenes follow, such as when the guys stake out the back yard and do some spying on Miss Landers. It also shows off the really cool barbque and yard the new house boasted. Scenes like this underlined the fact it was a novel idea for the Clevers to move to a bigger house in the first place.
Likewise, credit this episode for some campy dialogue; Beave takes a sharp look at Miss Lander's new dress and comments he "never saw her arms before!" What is also particularly interesting is when the suggestion arises Miss Landers may even "smoke" outside! Times would eventually change, especially on sitcoms in about ten years, effectively downplaying smoking.
Perhaps the longest time Sue Randall appears in a single episode on the show, and she is beautiful. Sue was also a regular on many Warner Brothers/ABC tv shows, such as 77 SUNSET STRIP. No question she was probably always asked (by Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow) about Stu and Kookie behind the scenes. Not to forget Poncie Ponce and Connie Stevens from HAWAIIN EYE! TV icons back in the day!
Lots of fun. Don't miss this. SEASON 3 EPISODE 9 remastered Universal dvd box set.
