The only good thing about this movie is the premise
GuelphGuy14 December 2010
You could have taken the book out of the movie and still had the same plot. And I'm being generous inferring that this movie had a plot to start with.

Some decent acting mixed with some awful acting, the movie takes a good premise and then drowns it with a god-awful screenplay.

The score was intrusive, and between the cardboard acting you start to question the actions of some of the characters. Even the lead character, who has a pretty strong love for books, starts picking books up at random and reading lines out loud. Really? I mean, REALLY?

Save a couple of hours of your life and visit your local library instead.

4/10 and three of those for the panties.

A little gem of peoples lives touching

Warning: Spoilers
Wonderful movie where ordinary lives meet, entangle, get twisted, get resolved, meet, wonder. It's just a bookshop you might know and walk in regularly and meet your fellow human beings. The story is not important I believe in this movie. It's the interaction of lives.

Also the book is not that important, it is merely a means of touching people and let their lives progress. But this story is also about daring to be courageous and defy presumed higher authorities. It's about doing good, being good, sometimes in spite of the consequences.

It's just a little gem with true, believable characters which is a lot more than I can say of most US blockbuster movies. So the acting is maybe accordingly quite ordinary, i.e. very good, because if you are able to portray a genuine flesh and blood person, wow, you are good.
