The Legend of Hiawatha
TheLittleSongbird22 August 2012
Burbank Films Australia's output has mostly been interesting to me. While I didn't care for Don Quixote, The Odyssey, The Three Musketeers, Prisoner of Zenda and Alice Through the Looking Glass, I enjoyed to loved everything else, my favourites being Wind in the Willows, Peter Pan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Hiawatha was one of the good ones from Burbank. The animation quality was not great for me, the character designs lack a lot of fluidity and the colours could have done with more vibrancy. That said the backgrounds do show some signs of detail. The dialogue also could have flowed a little better However, the music is hauntingly beautiful, and the story focusing mainly on Hiawatha's challenges is compelling, with the action sometimes intense and some of the more exposition-like scenes moving. The characters are likable and do engage, Hiawatha is charismatic and brave which is what I like in the more heroic characters. The voice acting is solid with effort made to make them sound authentic. All in all, a good entry from Burbank that is neither the best or worst. 8/10 Bethany Cox
