The Picture of Manuel Soares
richardchatten23 April 2019
A pale copy of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' shot at Merton Park but largely set in Spain in which the malign portrait when finally revealed proves actually rather effective.

Although billed ahead of the title, fifties blonde bombshell Sandra Dorne is during the course of the tale supplanted by smouldering brunette Yvonne Romain, then still billed as Yvonne Warren.

Does the job

Warning: Spoilers
PORTRAIT OF A MATADOR is a nice little 20 minute short film, not exceptional, but feeling much like an episode of THE TWILIGHT ZONE or ONE STEP BEYOND. The story is familiar enough - a fiery matador swears vengeance on a British artist - but it clips along at a fair pace and features a memorable supporting role for Hammer starlet Yvonne Romain.
