Great story.

Warning: Spoilers
Doctor Who: Revenge of the Cybermen: Part 3 starts with the revelation that the Cybermen didn't kill the Doctor (Tom Baker) but just knocked him unconscious, with their plan to blow up Voga because of it's gold which is fatal to Cybermen revealed the Doctor, Commander Stevenson (Ronald Leigh-Hunt) & Lester (William Marlowe) have Cyberbombs strapped to their back & transported down to the surface of Voga to plant them. Meanwhile Sarah (Elisabeth Sladen) & Harry (Ian Marter) have managed to convince the Vogans to work together to try & destroy the Cybermen threat but is it already too late...

This Doctor Who adventure was episode 19 from season 12 that aired here in the UK during mid 1975, directed by Michael E. Briant I personally think Revenge of the Cybermen is a cracking story despite it's bad reputation. The script by Gerry Davis was originally titled Return of the Cybermen & was to take place almost entirely on the Nerva Beacon before script editor Robert Holmes stepped in & changed the title & rewrote it to include the subplot about the Vogans, in my opinion I think the story works very well & has moved along like a rocket although I wish the Cybermen were involved a bit more. I liked the way some of the character's have developed here & there's been a couple of decent twists. This is good fun & highly entertaining to watch.

This has looked really good with nice production values including some atmospheric location shooting in some natural caves near Wells in Somerset called Wookey Hole which are apparently haunted by a witch, rumour has it strange things beset the production including Elisabeth Sladen almost drowning after having to jump off one of those boat things & an electrician who suffered a broken leg in an accident. Spooky eh?

Revenge of the Cybermen is a great Doctor Who story that I've enjoyed a lot, what more can I say if you get the opportunity & you like good natured sci-fi fun then check it out.

The Cybermen begin their attack.

The Cybermen explain their intentions, and send The Doctor and remaining crew to solve the problem on Voga.

The sets are quite nice, The Vogans however aren't the greatest design, and some of those masks look a little ill fitting. The Cybermen however look good, and have continued in their development since Invasion.

This is a much better episode then the previous two, The Cybermen have at least added some menace, Tom is also on form, having more to do, delivering a great speech incredibly well. It also looks much sharper, and even has better music.

Better, owes a lot to Baker's performance, still no classic. 7/10

Not gold but a decent bronze.

Cybermen are a favourite of mine and I think they are effectively portrayed in this story albeit quite different to earlier Cybermen. The leader of the Cybermen actually is quite Darth Vader like (this was of course made before Star Wars so it is NOT a copycat).

The story involves The Doctor, Sarah and Harry arriving back on the Space Station Nerva but some considerable time before the time it was used as an 'ark'. The station is hit with deaths of numerous crew and The Doctor tries to help, eventually discovering involvement of Cybermen.

The Cybermen are suitably villainous and decently realised. The aliens native to the 'planet of Gold' are acceptable, if very unexceptional, aliens. The Doctor, Sarah and Harry are great and the other main humans are well portrayed. The story is entertaining and enjoyable. The problem holding this adventure back a bit is an occasional unclear logic in how events and choices progress.

The Vogon costumes and effects may not be amazing but they are OK and the Nerva station is brilliant. It was wise to re-use the excellent sets from The Ark in Space.

My ratings: Episodes 1 & 2 - 8.5/10, Episodes 3 & 4 - 7.5/10.

You're Indestructible...

... always believe in - contradiction, especially went it relates to a golden affliction, as two unvaccinated Cybes, fail to suffer from gold vibes, and the walls begin to crumble with prediction.

Clever Story, poorly realised
silverfox-336515 December 2021
This is probably the weakest story of season 12.

The Cybermen are not inately threatening, and the Vogans are poorly designed.

That said the acting is great and the story is clever.

The reuse of the Nerva beacon brings a story loop to a satisfying end.

Even as the weakest story, it is still miles better than anything produced after 2017.

If remade today with better CGI and more impressive Cybermen it would be a classic.

This story is mainly a victim of budgetry limitations.

better than the last two episodes, but it's 'meh'

A solid episode, but i still like the timeless children better, and that episode is unfairly being given a 5.6/10 on imdb. Go give it a 7, 8, 9, or 10 out of 10, cuz that is what almost every episode of new who deserves.
