Joe Giacobello, the film's writer, producer, director, and leading man, filmed many of the scenes in his own apartment. While he plays a respected psychologist considered to be one of the best anxiety specialists in the US, his character is a slob in personal life. Consequently, Joe had to convert his apartment into what he calls a "pigpen", with trash and clothing strewn about his living space. During the entire year of shooting, he had to keep the apartment in this disheveled state, unable to move a single piece of debris.
