Did you know
- TriviaMr Rumbold reminds Captain Peacock that Grace Brothers dress code specifies that bowler hats are for upper management executive employees such as himself, while lower and middle management like Peacock (and Mr Grainger) may wear homburgs while junior employees like Mr Lucas and Mr Humphries are to wear trilby style hats or brimmed caps. This rule was also mentioned in "The Hand of Fate" when Mr Humphries reads his palm and sees Captain Peacock wearing a new hat, which Mr Lucas interprets as his being promoted and wearing a "stupid-looking bowler". Yet the first season show "His and Hers", Peacock is shown wearing a bowler without any comment from Rumbold.
- GoofsWhen Mr. Grace arrives for the fashion show, he tells Mr. Rumbold he is going to see Last Tango in Paris. Shortly after, he tells Rumbold he hopes it won't take much longer because he doesn't want to miss the Mickey Mouse. While it was still common in 1972, in some places, to show animated shorts before a feature film, Disney would never have licensed Mickey Mouse to be shown before such an infamous X-rated film.
- Quotes
Mr. Ernest Grainger: Now, how about advertising in the local newspapers? You know, something like, "You get a square deal at Grace Brothers"?
Mr. Wilberforce Clayborne Humphries: We'll be in trouble with the Trades Descriptions Act.
Mr. Dick Lucas: Oh, I don't know. I mean, you couldn't have squarer clothes than what we've got.
Mr. Cuthbert Rumbold: What do you mean, Mr. Lucas?
Mr. Dick Lucas: Well, we're not exactly trendy, are we? I mean, look at all the fuss you all made the other week when I came in wearing high-heeled shoes.
Mr. Wilberforce Clayborne Humphries: It wasn't the shoes, it was that walking stick you had to stop yourself from falling over.
- ConnectionsReferences College Rhythm (1934)
So much quality in these early episodes, the jokes and lines are all so fresh, the deliveries are excellent. There wasn't a single weak link, although you could see Inman being moved to the front. The fashion show is hilarious.
Mr Mash in future I would like you to wash the female dummies in a petticoat. Some of the lines are hilarious. The site of him cleaning the mannequin is so funny.
Excellent 8/10
