Alan punishes Jake for an incident at Judith's house. Charlie is lax in enforcing Alan's restrictions, and when some seagulls invade Charlie's house as a result of Jake's actions, Charlie must learn how to discipline his nephew.
Alan learns that asking Charlie to help him punish Jake makes it harder; the naughty knaves would rather play together. Charlie learns, also the hard way, that such an immature boy can't be left uncontrolled--he even feeds seagulls until they take over Charlie's bedroom. Alan refuses to learn that Judith keeps him for chores to exploit his domestic skills and that even her kiss when he announces he will stop coming round (on Charlie's advice) is just a ploy. Then Charlie learns that ignoring a repentant kid isn't right either.—KGF Vissers
