Interesting idea, not executed well
SusieSalmonLikeTheFish12 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A group of girls, for unknown reasons, head to a remote area for a water fast. They have no electricity, no video games, no music, no food, nothing but water. They each have secrets they are trying to forget and hope this is the answer. Unknown to them, their water source is heavily polluted and exposure to it is making them act erratic... to the point of no return.

Aside from the fact that I'm never a fan of films that give pollution a bad rep, this movie, which I watched in Italian with English subtitles, was undoubtedly boring. The idea certainly was creative and interesting, but this movie is really lacking. I don't recommend watching it but the concept itself had potential.

There's an idea in this

Warning: Spoilers
Alex Infascelli has made some intriguing films. The first of his I saw was his documentary S Is for Stanley, which is about Stanley Kubrick and his personal chauffeur and assistant Emilio D'Alessandro. He also made a few other giallo movies, including Almost Blue and The Vanity Syrum.

Written by Infascelli with Vincent Villani, Olivia (Chiara Conti) and her friends Ana (Anapola Mushkadiz), Nicole (Mandala Tayde), Christina (Olga Shuvalova) and Summer (Claire Falconer) have travelled to a farmhouse where they will undergo a purification ritual and only drink water. No phones, no food, just them and water. Of the friends, Olivia is the one who is most often made fun of, as she's too sweet. But what a secret she has. Inside her body is her unborn twin Helena, who has left behind teeth in her shoulder. While in the middle of the madness that the water brings on, she tears out those vestigial teeth with her hands. And then it gets worse.

Featuring effects by Sergio Stivaletti (The Wax Mask), this feels like a new take on the f giallo, a movie where what should be a peaceful time of meditation is transformed into horror inside a glass-walled villa. I have no idea exactly how it got to where it got, as it could have been polluted water, the hidden twin, witchery or just plain mental illness. A lot of it feels like an art film with giallo leanings - hey, that sounds good - and some reviewers have outright hated the acting and the fact that nothing occurs for long stretches of time. But when it gets going, it really hit with me. Hopefully you will get the same thing out of it.

Looks like a film school project to me. It's not much of a movie.

I've been a fan of Italian horror and western flicks, mainly giallo and other old genre films of the 60's, the 70's and the beginning of the 80's.

This movie just proves to me that the contemporary Italian cinema is merely a shadow of its glorius past. In the old days movie makers had ambition and vision and could accomplish appealing internationally released films with limited budgets. Now everything's changed. I feel sorry to say that the film looks like that it was made with a budget of about 50 000 euro at least, but never 1 million. I wonder how they managed to spend all that money as it really looks that cheap.

The movie doesn't engage, it doesn't have good actors and it just doesn't work. Where's the movie magic? It just looks like sequences composed of video clips with same boring music. I don't like the accents that some characters have and none of them really are that interesting.

Digital era has made filmmaking so much easier, so that films are made even without a good script and storyline and the results are quite obvious. Just skip this one. It isn't horror.

Totally mindless boring garbage.
bob_hamer200418 October 2008
Well what can I say? I can accept that not everyones taste in movies is the same. But i'll eat my own DVD player if anyone could be so utterly brain damaged to like this pile of garbage. A bunch of girls go to an island on a lake to do a "Water Fast". Yup, they just drink water for a few days. Supposed to clean the body and spirit. Well watching an hour and a half of some ugly girls drinking water,is not my idea of entertainment. I waited and waited for something to happen, as this was categorised as a horror move. Nope it's a horrible movie not a horror move. The highlight's..One of the girls goes into a bathroom and makes a small cut on her shoulder. One of the girls gets a stone thrown at her head. For god's sake, is this the limit of the production teams imagination?. Give up trying to make movies boys, and go back to trying to scare little kids with a matchbox and a plastic spider. Don't waste any money or time on this insult to movie making. I turned it off 10 mins before the end..Maybe 1 hour and 20 mins too late. Rubbish.

Just about the norm
Leofwine_draca26 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
HATE 2 0 is a straight-to-video indie horror/thriller that hails from Italy. As with so many indies, the plot is a worthless concoction full of cliches and zero imagination. Five girls head off to a rural retreat for a 'water fasting' weekend but instead soon find themselves plagued by mysterious events, some of which are grisly. The ultra-slow pace and uninteresting characters make this just about the norm for its genre.

..intresting, but not perfect..

H2Odio is the third movie by Alex Infascelli, a talented Italian director, with a great love with amazing cinematography and video clip directing... I have to admit that I don't really enjoy video clip directing (except for Shinya Tsukamoto's amazing style) and this movie is THE MOVIE WITH A VIDEO CLIP DIRECTING, but, I have to admit, it's visually impressive! The really problem of this movie is this: it's visually impressive, but nothing more else...acting and dialogs are not sooooo bad (they aren't bad at all), you never have the impression to watch a bad film, but the whole screenplay is a bit weak...

I have to say that is really hard to find horror/thriller movies like this in Italy nowadays, Infascelli is a director who wants to experiment (some sequences in H2Odio are really amazing if you like Digital Shots) so this work is important for Italian "creepy movies", and for this reason I hope that Alex Infascelli will pay more attention on the substance in his next movies, 'cause a great cinematography and amazing camera movements makes an interesting movie, but not a masterpiece..

Anyway, bravo Alex! and Chiara Conti confirms her as a talented actress...

We need movies like this!

Strange thing!one of the most interesting and visually superb thriller/horror movie of the last decade is just edited on sale and not in the cinema!!. Infascelli (the director of the overrated "Almost blue",but nowadays one of the most skillful Italian directors besides Garrone and not so much others )spreads on the screen like a psycho painter a bunch of really morbid images ( a pretty good mix of psychedelic visions and video-clip style), shrieking about a descent into the madness… Everything in this movie (actresses, location, color, music and obviously…the water..) create a really sick thing! If you are not on diet, it's unmissable!

well conceived, well directed, good music but...
xanadu-1626 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie on DVD since it was not released to cinema but directly on DVD supports as commercial choice made by the director Infanscelli. Infascelli gets the right mood filming this story using only actresses. They go on a little island to perform the water cure, some sort of extreme diet using only water, i mean drinking only water, staying together, trying maybe to open their minds, expanding their knowledge into nature and other sorts of things. I liked this story until i recognized something, the dead twin, absorbed by the other that is the one alive, a concept used in many other novels even by Stephen King in one of its most famous book. Once you understand this, all magic seems to disappear but still remains a good exercise in style and in music as well.

As good as the premises are and the end of magic comes, you see the main character in front of a mirror discovering her dead twin's rest, a tooth in her upper arm, she then understands other things becoming living revenge against all those who tried to fool her, despise her and blame her.

Good movie but not excellent, i feel like there was so much left unexplored... six out of ten!
