The Mexican newspaper has grammatical and stylistic errors that would not be made by a native speaker of Spanish. The title "Guardián del Gente": "del" is masculine but "gente" has feminine gender in Spanish. It should be "Guardián de la Gente" or "Guardián del Pueblo", both of which translate to "Guardian of the People" in English. The story itself actually reads, "An elderly female assassin terrorizes local towns. The Attorney General and the authorities move it slowly", while Elle translates it as "There's a serial assassin who's killing elderly women in local towns, and the Attorney General and the authorities are moving slowly".
Gideon states that Andrei Chikatilo was active in "Soviet Ukraine." He was instead active in and around Rostov, which was and is solidly inside Russia - in fact it is one of Russia's oldest cities. Chikatilo was born in Ukraine, but he didn't become a serial killer until late in his adult life, long after he had moved to Russia.
Elle uses the colloquial form of Spanish ("tú") while using the honorific Señor/Señora (Mr/Mrs) at the same time. Such honorifics are used in the polite form of Spanish ("usted"). The way Elle speaks Spanish could even be offensive, especially in Latin America where the "usted" form is the default one, even among members of the same family.
