- Storm: I do not desire to lead, Professor. My claustrophobia puts the others at risk.
- Professor Charles Xavier: When the time comes, Storm, it may not be a matter of choice.
- Callisto: Welcome, pretty one. I am Callisto. You've already met some of my tribe. We Morlocks are outcasts, mutants too deformed and unsightly to pass for human on the surface world. Unlike you, we have no choice but to dwell here, away from those who fear us. When I saw your bravery and leadership, I knew it was my destiny to have one such as you to rule beside me. That is why I sent this one into trouble to help show you the way.
- Cyclops: Right. Where's Jean?
- Callisto: [stroking his cheek] When you agree to stay.
- Cyclops: [pushes her hand away] Sorry. Not interested.
- Callisto: That wasn't a request.
- Cyclops: Sunlight fuels my power. I won't be much good to you down here.
- Callisto: Do I look like I need a protector? To serve my people, I need a companion. Someone to provide me an heir.
- Cyclops: So take out an ad. Now where's Jean?
- Professor Charles Xavier: Remember, this isn't a game. These dangers are patterned on those X-Men might encounter in the field. Our continued training is crucial. As long as mankind fears our mutant powers, we are in danger. Remember what happened to Morph. In the days ahead, we will have to depend on each other for our very lives.
- [Wolverine lies on his bed, gazing at a photo of Scott and Jean. He tenderly strokes the Jean part of the photo when he overhears...]
- Rogue: Where the heck are the lovebirds?
- Gambit: Who cares? Let them be alone for a change.
- [a growling Wolverine extends a claw and slashes the Scott part of the photo]
- Cyclops: How's Gambit doing?
- Professor Charles Xavier: Recuperating nicely.
- Jean Grey: It's almost as miraculous as your return from the dead.
- Professor Charles Xavier: I take it your date was sufficiently... memorable.
- Cyclops: Yeah. Now all we need is a vacation.
- Jean Grey: What's with you? We finally get a night out together and you're a million miles away.
- Cyclops: You know, to me, being an X-Man is the most important job in the world. That's why I can't bear the thought of letting Professor Xavier down.
- Jean Grey: And it's making you crazy. You're doing the best you can, but you're no good to the Professor when you're like this. Relax a little. For the good of the team.
- Cyclops: You're absolutely right. From this moment on, my mind is on nothing but you.
- Professor Charles Xavier: Jean tells me you acquitted yourself well as field commander.
- Storm: The entire team nearly perished.
- Professor Charles Xavier: But they didn't, and I think I have you to thank for that.
- Callisto: Your leader was a great warrior. We mourn his loss. My Morlocks will provide safe passage to the surface world.
- Wolverine: Great warrior, eh?
- [extending his claws]
- Wolverine: How about we take him back in pieces?
- Storm: Wolverine! No, don't!
- [as Wolverine drives his claws into the pavement near Scott's head, he wakes up screaming and shifts back into one of the Morlocks]
- Wolverine: Cyke has his problems, but he don't smell like a Morlock. Looks like we're gonna have to persuade them to give him back.
- Callisto: Fools. You can't fight us here.
- Rogue: [as the battle begins] You all need to brush up on your hospitality.
- Storm: [defeating Callisto in a duel] You've lost. But you shall not die. Killing is not the X-Men's way. Morlocks, you no longer need to live in darkness. As your leader, I offer you safe haven at the mansion with the X-Men. You are outcasts no more.
- Annalee: Our place is down here. We can't live among normal humans.
- Tarbaby: When humanity accepts mutant-kind, then we will come to the surface.
- Storm: When such acceptance is achieved, I shall return to you. 'Til then, Callisto will rule in my place.
